Apply Now
Job Summary We are seeking a highly credentialed agronomist or soil fertility scientist to serve as an independent technical consultant for our lawn care fertilizer brand. This is not an employment position, it is a consulting arrangement designed to fit flexibly alongside an existing academic, research, or professional career. We are looking for a recognized expert with a deep background in turfgrass nutrition, soil fertility, and fertilizer science who is passionate about translating research into real-world guidance. The ideal consultant brings a Ph.D.-level foundation in soil science or agronomy, a history of peer-reviewed research, and the communication skills to bridge the gap between university science and the homeowner lawn care market. This role offers meaningful, intellectually engaging work with the flexibility to contribute on your own schedule. Responsibilities : Consulting Scope (2–5 Hours Per Week) Core activities may include, but are not limited to: • Serve as the company’s primary technical advisor, providing authoritative guidance on turfgrass nutrition, fertilizer formulations, soil fertility, and agronomic best practices as questions arise from internal teams. • Review and vet marketing claims, product positioning, and consumer-facing messaging to ensure scientific accuracy and regulatory soundness. • Contribute one blog post per month on lawn care or fertilizer science topics, translating university-level research into practical homeowner guidance (approximately 600–900 words; topics determined collaboratively). • Provide input on new fertilizer product development—evaluating ingredients, application rates, nutrient technologies, and label claims. • Offer guidance on fertilizer registration considerations and the state-by-state regulatory landscape as needed (consultation only, not primary compliance work). • Participate in occasional brief video or audio content to lend expert credibility to educational materials (as schedule permits). Requirements We are specifically seeking candidates who resemble the following profile, informed by our most successful placement to date: • Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy, Turfgrass Science, or a closely related discipline (required). • Background as a university professor, extension specialist, or senior research scientist with a specialization in soil fertility and/or turfgrass nutrition. • Published researcher with a track record of peer-reviewed work—someone who can authoritatively cite science and translate it for non-specialist audiences. • Experienced science communicator: demonstrated ability to write for both professional and lay audiences (extension publications, trade magazine columns, educational content, etc.). • Current member or Fellow of professional societies such as the American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), Soil Science Society of America (SSSA), or equivalent. • Familiarity with the turfgrass industry, including lawn care, golf, sports turf, or sod production. • Comfortable working independently in a remote, asynchronous consulting capacity. • Emeritus, semi-retired, or currently active in academia/research with capacity for a modest consulting commitment. • Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy, Turfgrass Science, Horticulture, or directly related field. • Minimum 10 years of applied experience in turfgrass nutrition, soil fertility, or fertilizer science. • Demonstrated written communication skills—academic publications, extension content, trade writing, or equivalent. • Ability to commit to a consistent 2–5 hours per week under a consulting agreement. Qualifications and Experience • Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy, Turfgrass Science, Horticulture, or directly related field. • Minimum 10 years of applied experience in turfgrass nutrition, soil fertility, or fertilizer science. • Demonstrated written communication skills: academic publications, extension content, trade writing, or equivalent. • Ability to commit to a consistent 2–5 hours per week. Pay: $60.00 - $90.00 per hour Work Location: Remote
