What You'll Do

As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in designing and maintaining information systems that tackle dynamic challenges shaping the future of retail. As a member of our Data Engineering team, you will be responsible for envisioning, creating, and maintaining robust data pipelines that our Data Scientists and Analysts can rely on daily. You'll contribute to a coordination layer of complex data transformations, refining raw data from various sources into targeted, valuable data assets ready for meaningful analysis.
Data Transformation and Integration
- Extract and analyze data from identified databases with precision and attention to detail
- Create efficient data pipelines and transform data structures relevant to specific business problems by selecting appropriate methodologies
- Stay current with emerging data analysis trends and technologies
- Develop scalable solutions for high-volume data processing
Data Source Identification
- Support understanding of requirement specifications and service level agreements
- Identify the most suitable data sources that serve business purposes effectively
- Perform initial data quality checks on extracted information
- Evaluate source system reliability and recommend improvements
Data Modeling
- Analyze complex data elements, systems, data flows, relationships, and dependencies to contribute to conceptual, physical, and logical data models
- Develop Logical Data Models and Physical Data Models including data warehouse and data lake architectures
- Define database tables, primary and foreign keys, and stored procedures to create robust data model architectures
- Evaluate existing data models and physical databases for variances and inconsistencies
- Design efficient data flow architectures and optimize data processing performance
- Investigate data-related system integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions
Code Development and Testing
- Write code to develop required solutions and application features by selecting appropriate programming languages and leveraging business, technical, and data requirements
- Create test cases to review and validate proposed solution designs
- Develop proofs of concept to validate technical approaches
- Test code using appropriate testing methodologies and frameworks
- Deploy software to production environments with minimal downtime
- Contribute to code documentation, maintain operational playbooks, and provide timely development updates
Applied Business Acumen
- Provide strategic recommendations to business partners to address complex business challenges
- Develop business cases for projects with projected return on investment or cost savings
- Translate business requirements into actionable tasks, activities, and milestones while adapting to overall business strategies

Data Governance
- Establish, adjust, and report on data governance activities and recommendations

- Provide recommendations for necessary updates or contributions to data governance policies
Leadership and Mentorship

- Facilitate and support the execution of business solutions by building relationships with key stakeholders
- Identify business needs and implement essential processes and practices

- Create training documentation and train end-users on data modeling techniques
- Supervise tasks of less experienced programmers and provide system troubleshooting support
What You'll Bring

Minimum Requirements
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with Hadoop, Spark, Cloud platforms, Python/PySpark, and Java
- Streaming & Backend: Knowledge of streaming technologies and backend development
- Programming Skills: Proven track record coding with at least one programming language such as Scala or Python
- Cloud Platform Expertise: Proficiency in at least one major cloud computing platform such as GCP (Google Cloud Platform) or Microsoft Azure
- Data Modeling: Strong skills in data modeling and data migration protocols
- Big Data Solutions: Experience building highly scalable Big Data solutions and ETL ecosystems
- Integration Tools: Experience with integration tools such as Automic or Wind Flow
- Data Warehousing: Experience with data warehousing and Business Intelligence (BI) tools
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Databricks Knowledge: Familiarity with Databricks is a significant advantage
- NoSQL Experience: Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases like Cosmos DB, along with RDBMS such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Messaging Platforms: Hands-on working experience with messaging platforms like Kafka
- Process Improvement: Ability to increase team efficiency by improving cycles of Software Development, Requirement Gathering, and Effort Estimation
- Analytical Thinking: Strong creative problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Advanced Education: Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Industry Experience: 2+ years of professional experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analysis
