Job Summary
The Sylvan Teacher will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning environment for students, using our proprietary program materials to deliver personalized instruction and support. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in evaluating student progress, communicating with parents and center staff, and contributing to the development of each student's learning plan. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare for each instructional session, gathering and preparing materials as needed to ensure a balanced and robust learning experience for students
- Greet students and initiate instruction, personally engaging each student and creating a positive learning environment
- Instruct students according to the design of the Sylvan programs, using a variety of teaching methods and strategies to meet the diverse needs of our students
- Manage students, tasks, and time to create a productive and engaging instructional session, minimizing distractions and maximizing learning outcomes
- Evaluate and record student progress on each program assignment, using data to inform instruction and make adjustments as needed
- Use praise and encouragement to motivate students, recognizing and rewarding achievements and progress along the way
- Communicate with parents and center staff, providing regular updates on student progress and collaborating to develop strategies for supporting student learning
- Attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed, staying up-to-date on best practices and new developments in education
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you will need to possess a strong foundation in education, with a four-year degree or equivalent required. State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired) are preferred, as is a minimum of one or two years of teaching experience. We are seeking candidates with a passion for education and a commitment to delivering high-quality instruction, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, we prefer candidates with experience working with children in a class or small group setting, as well as knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension (for reading teachers) or college-level math (for math teachers). Familiarity with the SAT and/or ACT and STAAR testing is also preferred for test prep tutors.
