About the Role
As a Freight Handling and Data Entry Specialist at FedEx Freight, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to freight handling, data entry, and customer service. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to start their career in logistics, gain hands-on experience with freight handling equipment, and develop essential skills in data entry, communication, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
- Freight Handling: Perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks, to transport freight across the dock area to/from trailers for loading.
- Documentation Verification: Verify documentation matches freight description (e.g., type, weight, hazardous materials) using current electronic or manual systems.
- Freight Securing: Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies (e.g., pallets, straps, rope).
- Damaged Freight: Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
- Documentation and Reporting: Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
- Customer Service: Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
- Hostling Duties: Perform hostling duties if required.
- Compliance: Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Age and Education: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior Experience: Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling, and/or forklift operations is preferred.
- Physical Abilities: Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, to lift dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and to open trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day or more.
- Math and Communication Skills: Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator, and basic written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical Demands: Ability to bend, twist, squat, pushing/pulling freight throughout shift.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous Dock/Warehouse Experience: Previous dock/warehouse experience is preferred.
- Hostler/Yard Mule Experience: If hostler/yard mule duties are required, experience is preferred.
