Job description: General Statement of Duties
The Music & Dance department at Salem State University invites applicants for a full-time temporary position beginning September 2024. We seek a colleague with an expertise in voice/choral conducting as well as the ability to teach courses in music education and other music courses according to the needs of the program. The position may be reappointed for up to two additional years subject to available funding, and with continued growth of the program it is expected there may be additional tenure track lines in the departments.
The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for choral music activities, teaching, evaluating and reviewing courses in music education, and proposing changes as necessary. Candidates with experience in a diverse range of musical styles are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in recruitment activities, advise students, attend department meetings and participate in departmental committees, tasks and duties. Our department has a strong commitment to the inclusion and engagement of our growing population of diverse students, and the institution as a whole is in the process of gaining recognition as an HSI (Hispanic Serving Institution).

Duties and Responsibilities
Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the . Duties include teaching, advising, and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in music
- Experience teaching music in an educational setting
- Evidence of experience teaching or performing diverse musical styles
- Doctoral degree in music or terminal degree in a related field from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated excellence in conducting vocal ensembles and teaching vocal music at the university level
- Commitment to anti-racist, culturally responsive teaching
- Demonstrated excellence in recruiting and retention in music and/or choral music at the collegiate level
- Advising and/or mentoring experience
- A demonstrated commitment to music education within a liberal arts environment at a comprehensive university
