The College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Mandarin Chinese, starting Fall Semester 2024. The goal of the UT language programs is to prepare students for 21st century jobs by focusing on the skills that employers prioritize, including effective oral and written communication, critical thinking, collaborative teamwork, and sophisticated analytical skills. We engage our students in a transformative education of discovery, creativity and reflection.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in Dual Language Education, Second Language Pedagogy, and/or Chinese for Business Purposes that is appropriate to the institution's ambitious "open, inclusive, comprehensive, polytechnic" mission. Further, the ideal candidate will have experience designing, overseeing, and assessing the Mandarin Chinese curriculum. Additionally, we are looking for individuals who would help develop a Minor in Chinese with a pathway towards a Major in the near future.

Utah Tech University (UT) is part of the State Bridge Program for Advanced Language Learning, teaching 3000 level Chinese courses to high school students who have passed AP as early as in 9th grade. POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) tenure-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2024, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2024. Annual salary of $61,000-$65,000, depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching. Excellent benefits package included that begins on start date; includes medical, dental, vision, employee assistance and wellness programs, life, disability, retirement, and undergraduate tuition waivers for employees and eligible dependents. UT supports international tenure-track faculty in securing the right to work legally in the US (typically H1-B visa petitions). Any support beyond the H1-B visa is considered on a case-by-case basis and is limited by available funds. See under "Benefits Summary" for more details.
