About the Role
The Principal DevOps Engineer will be a Technical Subject Matter Expert and Individual Contributor responsible for driving organizational transformation in developing DevOps tooling, practices, and culture. You will contribute to enterprise-wide requirements and ensure adoption of the same, including observability, scalability, availability, security, and cost optimization. This is a senior-level position that requires a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence change across multiple teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead DevOps Strategy: Define and execute comprehensive DevOps strategy covering the design, development of tools, practices, and cultural transformation across the organization.
- Establish Best Practices: Lay down and enforce DevOps best practices, including version control, code review, automated testing, and deployment strategies that ensure consistency and reliability.
- Infrastructure as Code: Design and manage infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar solutions to provision and manage resources across cloud environments efficiently.
- CI/CD Pipeline Management: Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, CircleCI, or equivalent platforms, ensuring rapid and reliable application deployment while maintaining high quality standards.
- Security & Compliance Collaboration: Work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure teams are adhering to industry best practices and regulatory requirements, incorporating security into every stage of the development lifecycle.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor and analyze DevOps pipelines and processes, identifying areas for improvement, innovation, and automation to enhance release/failback consistency and accuracy.
- Technology Research & Recommendations: Stay current with emerging information technologies, trends, and best practices, and make strategic recommendations for their adoption within the organization's DevOps ecosystem.
- Mentorship & Leadership: Coach and provide technical guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning throughout the organization.
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you must possess the following qualifications and demonstrate proven expertise in the following areas:
- Cloud Environment Experience: Hands-on experience working with public cloud environments, with preference for GCP (Google Cloud Platform), though Azure and AWS experience are also highly valued.
- Containerization Technologies: Strong proficiency with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, with the ability to design and implement containerized solutions at scale.
- Infrastructure as Code: Demonstrated capability in infrastructure as code concepts and tools (such as Terraform and Ansible) for automating resource provisioning and deployment processes.
- CI/CD Pipeline Expertise: Active involvement in CI/CD pipeline tools including Jenkins, CircleCI, or similar platforms, along with proficiency in version control systems such as Git.
- Programming & Scripting: Strong scripting abilities in languages like Python, Bash, or comparable programming languages to automate repetitive tasks and build custom solutions.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to analyze complex DevOps platform issues and develop effective, practical solutions.
- Communication & Collaboration: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functional teams and engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge:
- Monitoring & Logging Tools: Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or Cloud Logging Solutions to ensure optimal application performance and system health.
- Security Best Practices: Knowledge of security best practices in DevOps, including experience with vulnerability scanning, compliance frameworks, and secure deployment practices.
- Leadership Experience: Prior leadership experience, including mentoring and coaching junior engineers, is highly valued.
- Healthcare Industry Experience: Familiarity with healthcare technology, HIPAA compliance, and healthcare data regulations is a plus.
