Regional Underwriter (Hybrid)

Mapfre is a global insurance leader with a strong local presence, and they are seeking a Regional Underwriter to manage risk selection in an underwriting territory. The role involves analyzing information, managing agency relationships, and ensuring the profitability and quality of the agencies' books of business.

Responsibilities

• Profitably manage risk selection in an underwriting territory, through analysis of the information presented, and then selecting, declining, and providing alternatives for the risks reviewed. This analysis is completed through use of established underwriting authority levels, guidelines, procedures and philosophies. Exercises discretion with regard to guidelines and procedures, when warranted for their assigned agencies
• Develop mutually beneficial relationships with assigned agents, unit members, and other functional departments, through daily communication, interaction, and agency visitation
• Effectively markets the Company, its products, and services to agents through daily communications
• Function as a technical resource, for independent agents and other functional departments within the Company
• Effectively communicate and interpret policy language, endorsements, coverage, and Company philosophies
• Develops strong knowledge of the Company’s expanding products, pricing, underwriting guidelines, and philosophies
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of industry products and issues
• Prepare and understand Agency Analysis Reports, designed to monitor and evaluate the overall profitability, quality, and composition of each agency’s book of business
• Influences and directs the agency, as necessary, to improve their mix of business, profitability and/or adherence with company objectives, philosophies, and guidelines
• Participates in developmental training courses, identified by the Underwriting Management Team, to expand/enhance their capabilities
• Visits agents as necessary to accomplish above responsibilities

Skills

• Associates Degree or Technical or specialized knowledge or equivalent, related experience
• 1 - 3 years of experience
• One year prior experience in the insurance industry or customer service
• Preferably actively enrolled in a degree or CPCU Program
• Should demonstrate ability to exercise business judgment
• Effective oral and written communication skills
