Mantell Associates is partnered with a global CDMO that is seeking a Business Development Director to drive commercial growth across the United States. The successful candidate will develop strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, expanding the organisation's customer base and delivering long-term commercial success.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan to drive revenue growth across the US pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets
- Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities for the company's Drug Product development and manufacturing services
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and emerging biopharma organisations
- Lead the full sales cycle from prospect identification through contract negotiation and successful project handover
- Promote the company's capabilities across Oral Solid Dose (OSD), Sterile Fill-Finish (SFF), formulation development, clinical supply, and commercial manufacturing services
- Collaborate closely with Technical Operations, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to develop tailored customer solutions
- Represent the organisation at industry conferences, partnering events, and customer meetings throughout North America
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer outsourcing strategies to identify new commercial opportunities
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, providing regular forecasting and commercial updates to senior leadership
- Support strategic account growth by identifying opportunities to expand existing customer partnerships across the CDMO service offering
Skills
- Significant business development experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CDMO industry
- Proven track record of securing high-value CDMO partnerships and consistently achieving commercial targets
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical development, manufacturing, and commercialisation processes
- Established network across pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies throughout the United States
- Experience managing complex consultative sales processes and negotiating commercial agreements with senior stakeholders
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across international cross-functional teams
- Willingness to travel extensively across the USA to support customer engagement and business development activities
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Business, or a related discipline
- Strong background selling Drug Product services, with experience in Oral Solid Dose (OSD) and Sterile Fill-Finish (SFF) manufacturing highly preferred
- An advanced degree would be advantageous
