UPS is a Fortune Global 500 organization seeking an OR Analyst to design, develop, and deploy advanced optimization and analytics-based decision support systems. This role involves formulating and implementing complex models to support operational decision-making and requires collaboration with various business stakeholders and technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Formulate, develop, and implement mathematical optimization models, algorithms, and decision support tools to address business and operational problems
- Translate business requirements into quantitative modeling frameworks, including defining objectives, constraints, assumptions, and performance metrics
- Design, prototype, test, and deploy optimization‑based solutions within production environments
- Analyze, validate, and calibrate models to ensure accuracy, robustness, and alignment with business objectives
- Evaluate alternative modeling approaches and solution methods to improve performance, scalability, and solution quality
- Collaborate with software development, data engineering, and business teams to integrate optimization models into enterprise systems
- Interpret and communicate analytical results to technical and non‑technical stakeholders, providing actionable recommendations and insights
- Develop and maintain clear technical documentation for models, methodologies, and system implementations
- Monitor model performance in production and implement enhancements or corrections as business needs evolve
- Stay current with advances in operations research methodologies and apply appropriate techniques to UPS use cases
Skills
- Ph.D. in Operations Research or a closely related field
- Experience in formulating and implementing mathematical optimization models
- Familiarity with commercial optimization solvers such as Gurobi and/or CPLEX
- Proficiency in object‑oriented programming and development of production‑quality analytical software
- Ability to clearly document optimization models, assumptions, methodologies, and solution approaches
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer
- Familiarity with advanced decomposition and solution techniques, including: Column generation, Benders decomposition, Dynamic programming, Lagrangian relaxation
