Tax Accountant, State and Local Tax

Sony Corporation of America, located in New York, NY, is the U.S. headquarters of Sony Group Corporation. The Tax Accountant will assist with all elements of various indirect state tax compliance, reporting, and audits processes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare 700 business personal property returns for 39 reportable states covering over 200 various jurisdictions
• Log and review over 400 property tax assessment notices, 500 property tax bills, and any open appeals
• Prepare quarterly and annualized NY commercial rent tax returns, billboard and signage familiarity preferred
• Prepare various other state and local tax returns including San Francisco gross receipts/homeless tax, annual reports, and Delaware Franchise Tax
• Administer and oversee data related to the formation, dissolution and ownership structure of legal entities within the tax group
• Assist with training of affiliates worldwide, interact with accounting, finance, and operating business unit teams
• Maintain the tax department’s compliance calendar
• Keep current on state legislative changes and developments
• Facilitate and champion process improvement initiatives within the tax group to enhance efficiency through the introduction of innovative solutions and collaboration with other tax specialty groups
• Honesty, trustworthiness and ethical conduct are material requirements for the responsibilities outlined above

Skills

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting/Taxation or equivalent experience required
• A minimum of 1-2 years of experience of public accounting and/or corporate tax experience from a large corporation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high degree of accuracy and self-review, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline driven dynamic environment
• Proficient with MS Office and automation solutions a plus
• Must be eligible to work unrestricted in the USA
• Entertainment industry experience preferred
• Billboard and signage familiarity preferred
