Position Function:
The Department of Music seeks an energetic, collaborative, andartistic candidate to build a dynamic applied low brass studio (inthree disciplines) at Mississippi State University. The successfulcandidate will assume this role at an exciting time in thedepartment with new facilities, strong enrollment, a strongrelationship with the University administration, and planned growthin curriculum and community relations. The new Assistant TeachingProfessor of Music - Low Brass is expected to bring an innovativeand energetic perspective to teaching studio trombone, euphonium,and tuba; a collaborative approach to chamber music coaching andperformance; and a collegial spirit to department and universityservice. It is expected that the candidate will contribute to anadditional responsibility in the department based on candidatestrengths and needs of the department. The successful candidatewill demonstrate excellence in teaching and service and will bringthat dedication to our students at the undergraduate and graduatelevel. A research and/or creative agenda is supported, but it isnot within the primary scope of this position. The position is considered a 9-month, promotable, non-tenure-trackline (starting August 16, 2026). The university has a promotionsystem in place for non-tenure track faculty to be considered forand promoted to Associate Teaching Professor, and subsequently FullTeaching Professor, after required time in rank and review by theTenure and Promotion Committee.
