About the Role: Data Engineer, Data Platform
We're currently seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineer to join our Data Platform Engineering team. This is a remarkable opportunity to work at the intersection of big data, cloud infrastructure, and intelligent systems. As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you'll be instrumental in building and maintaining the highly automated, low-latency core datasets that empower data architects and end-users across our organization to work with insightful data at scale.
This role offers the chance to make a significant impact on our technical infrastructure while working alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry. You'll be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines that process massive volumes of information in real-time, supporting everything from product analytics to business intelligence.
What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities
As a Data Engineer in our Data Platform Engineering group, you will:
- Drive Data Excellence: Lead initiatives to make data analysis effortless by creating and modifying core data models and storage structures. You'll deeply understand the requirements of our internal clients and translate those needs into efficient, scalable data solutions.
- Build Real-Time Data Pipelines: Create insightful data and metrics that become usable within seconds of real-world events occurring. You'll build streaming processes for output-inferred events and aggregated data, ensuring our teams always have access to the most current information.
- Design High-Volume Data Systems: Architect the construction, storage, and access of data at exceptionally high volumes for our data lakehouse. You'll optimize for both performance and cost-effectiveness while maintaining data quality and accessibility.
- Enhance Developer Productivity: Improve developer efficiency and self-service capabilities by contributing components to our stream data processing systems. You'll build tools and frameworks that make it easier for other engineers to work with data effectively.
- Own Infrastructure as Code: Take ownership of data engineering's infrastructure-as-code for provisioning services. Your work will enable our specialists to deploy mature software infrastructure within just a few hours, dramatically accelerating development cycles.
- Build Scalable Systems: Construct high-performance processes that allow our systems to scale seamlessly as our user base and data volumes continue to grow exponentially.
- Mentor and Grow: Coach other backend engineers on the team and help them develop their skills. You'll share knowledge, provide constructive feedback, and foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
- Develop Cloud-Native Solutions: Build and contribute to AWS high-scale distributed systems on the backend. You'll leverage your expertise in cloud infrastructure to create robust, resilient systems that can handle our growing demands.
What We're Looking For: Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- Programming Expertise: Strong proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, Scala, or Java. You should be comfortable writing clean, maintainable code and understanding software design patterns.
- Database Knowledge: Experience with designing database products and writing complex SQL queries. You should understand data modeling principles and be able to optimize queries for performance.
- API Development: Hands-on experience designing and deploying APIs and microservices. You should understand RESTful design principles and be able to create efficient, well-documented interfaces.
- System Design: Experience with system design and building internal tools. You should be able to architect solutions that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
- Data Lake Experience: Experience working with applications that process data from data lakes. Familiarity with modern data lake architectures and technologies is essential.
- Internal Tools Development: Some experience building internal admin sites or dashboards. You should be able to create user-friendly interfaces for data management and monitoring.
- Cloud Platform Expertise: Strong knowledge of AWS (Amazon Web Services) with practical experience in its data and analytics services. Alternatively, deep expertise in Azure or Google Cloud Engine with the ability to quickly learn AWS is also acceptable.
Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to efficiently evaluate open-source or third-party solutions to accomplish goals, or alternatively, devise quick and simple solutions independently when existing tools don't fit the need.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with streaming data processing frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or AWS Kinesis
- Knowledge of data lakehouse architectures and technologies like Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, or Apache Hudi
- Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Understanding of machine learning workflows and how data pipelines support ML operations (MLOps)
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth technology company
Skills and Competencies for Success
Beyond technical qualifications, we're looking for someone who embodies our Energetic values and brings:
- Collaboration: The ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, and other engineers. You should be comfortable communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Adaptability: The flexibility to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving requirements in a rapidly changing technical landscape. Our stack is always evolving, and we need someone who embraces change.
- Ownership Mindset: A sense of responsibility for your work and the outcomes of your projects. You should take initiative and see tasks through to completion without requiring excessive supervision.
- Attention to Detail: The ability to produce high-quality work and catch issues before they reach production. Data quality is critical to our business, and we need engineers who share this commitment.
- Continuous Learning: A growth mindset and commitment to staying current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in data engineering.
Location and Work Model
This position offers flexibility with a hybrid work arrangement. We operate on a remote-first hybrid model that enables highly collaborative culture while also valuing in-person connection.
