Database Access Platform Team

The Database Access Platform team builds and operates a flexible query gateway that provides data abstractions operating at sub-millisecond latencies while enabling arenaflex microservices to efficiently store, consume, and manage their data. This team holds significant responsibility in enabling arenaflex microservices to meet their ever-growing and evolving data needs.

Data Platform Infrastructure Team

The Data Platform Infrastructure team serves as a platform for our internal data platforms. Our shared infrastructure and tooling enable arenaflex to rapidly innovate on providing cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom platforms for each new initiative. To achieve this, we create high-impact infrastructure, control, and deployment systems specifically designed for running our data systems at scale.

Many of our tools and systems are written in Python, making this an excellent team to consider if you enjoy working in multiple languages and want to contribute to foundational infrastructure that powers the entire organization.

Data Ingestion and Processing Team

This team offers a dedicated self-service streaming data product to enable diverse client personas across arenaflex to meet their low-latency data ingestion and processing requirements. They enable abstraction over complex streaming systems like Kafka and Flink, offer a graph-driven processing experience, and invest heavily in operational automation, reliability, and tools for predictable data quality.

Big Data Compute Team

The Big Data Compute team is responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex. This team is crucial to batch data processing in our Data Platform. They support Spark for ETL operations into our petabyte-scale data warehouse and provide access to that data using Spark and Presto/Trino. They also deliver sub-second latency for specific query classes using Druid.

We are looking for exceptional talent with experience in Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, Iceberg, and distributed database systems in general. Jobs in this team involve tackling fascinating and challenging problems of working with data at scale, building features and performance improvements, and working closely with open-source communities to shape the future of these technologies.

Big Data Orchestration Team

This team offers the platform for scheduling, orchestrating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve manner. These platforms include core services that run all ETL and machine learning workloads on Big Data Infrastructure at arenaflex. These fully distributed systems are constantly evolving at arenaflex scale with state-of-the-art technology.

We are moving towards event-driven and intelligent orchestration that requires minimal user input/intervention. If you're passionate about building systems that reliably orchestrate thousands of data jobs daily, this team would love to hear from you.

Architecting and building robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure that serves millions of users worldwide

Driving cross-functional initiatives and collaborating with engineers, product managers, and technical program managers across teams

Contributing to open-source communities and sharing your expertise with the broader technology ecosystem through arenaflex OSS

Mentoring and growing other engineers while learning from some of the brightest minds in the industry

Working with cutting-edge technologies including Kafka, Flink, Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, Iceberg, Kubernetes, and cloud-native architectures

What We're Looking For

Basic Qualifications

2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems components or applications

Proficiency in the design and development of RESTful web services with a strong understanding of API design principles

Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems that handle high throughput and low latency requirements

Strong proficiency in Java or other object-oriented programming languages with a solid foundation in computer science fundamentals

Comfort with multi-threading and concurrent programming challenges

BS in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline

Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or similar distributed data processing frameworks

Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and cloud-native architectures

Familiarity with container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes and Docker

Experience with database technologies including relational databases, NoSQL databases, and distributed storage systems

Strong understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and data pipeline architecture

Open-source contributions or involvement in technical communities

Experience with microservices architecture patterns and best practices

Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
