About arenaflex Data Center Operations
Our Waukee data center is a state-of-the-art, arenaflex-owned and operated facility serving critical functions in centers, web services, and logistics. This facility represents the backbone of our digital infrastructure, processing massive amounts of data and supporting millions of users worldwide. As our EHS Lead, you'll be instrumental in ensuring that our operations remain safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible.
The Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) team at arenaflex is growing, and we need bold, committed, and flexible specialists to join a dynamic team dedicated to protecting the environment, health, and safety of our employees, clients, and the global communities in which we operate. You'll work alongside leadership and peers to oversee site operations, maintenance, and construction activities while contributing to broader cross-functional EHS program development.
What You'll Do
As the primary resource for all EHS services at our Waukee data center, you'll sit with the site leadership team and serve as the go-to expert for environmental health and safety matters. Your responsibilities will span multiple domains, ensuring comprehensive safety coverage across all operations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Site Safety Leadership: Ensure site operations, protection, and production activities are accomplished in accordance with supplier, arenaflex, federal, state, and other applicable policies.
- Training Collaboration: Work closely with local and broader site teams, corporate EHS training teams, and the data center training team to ensure training programs are developed and deployed according to regulations and mission needs.
- Risk Assessment & Control: Conduct job risk analyses, identify controls, and approve work permits to minimize hazards across all operations.
- Contractor Oversight: Oversee on-site contractors and vendors to ensure they adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Incident Management: Lead or participate in incident investigations, develop corrective actions, and drive actions to closure while implementing preventive measures.
- Compliance Audits: Conduct EHS audits and assessments to identify gaps and ensure continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Hazardous Materials Management: Support chemical and hazardous materials management programs, ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal.
- Regulatory Reporting: Maintain compliance with record-keeping and reporting requirements for air, water, and waste permits.
- Industrial Hygiene: Perform industrial hygiene examinations to monitor and control workplace health hazards.
- Program Development: Support corporate EHS initiatives to enhance management systems, standards improvement, and technology systems.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide remote support for data center operations outside the Waukee region and participate in broader cross-functional EHS projects.

Essential Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of broad-based EHS experience, with specific emphasis in construction, contractor management, and data center maintenance and operations activities.
- Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of facilities management, engineering, construction, environmental control, and physical safety (including work at height, energy isolation, medium voltage, confined space, and PPE requirements).
- Safety Expertise: Strong background in fire/life safety and industrial hygiene principles.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent organizational, project management, data analytics, and problem-solving abilities.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills with the ability to influence without authority.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to learn and utilize software solutions for data management, online file collaboration, and virtual meetings.
- Independence: Capacity to work independently in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Responsiveness: Ability to respond rapidly with clear and accurate input to a variety of stakeholders.
- Team Orientation: Must be highly collaborative with a team-first mindset.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid knowledge of relevant consensus standards and federal, state, and local requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a relevant EHS discipline is strongly preferred.
- Certifications: Relevant technical certifications, such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), are highly desirable.
- Availability: Ability to support after-hours emergency response when needed.

Compensation & Benefits
We offer competitive compensation packages that reflect the importance of the EHS Lead role to our organization. The expected salary range for this position is $30 to $40 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
