Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated Software Engineer III to join our Learning and Education team on a part-time, remote basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced developer who wants to contribute to transformative educational technology while maintaining a flexible work schedule. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining software solutions that power our educational platform.

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer at arenaflex, you'll work across the entire technology stack, bringing ideas to life from conception to deployment. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver features that enhance the learning experience for millions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

• Software Development: Write high-quality product or system development code using modern programming languages and frameworks. Design and implement scalable solutions that meet the needs of our growing user base.


• Architecture & Design: Participate in or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to evaluate available technologies and determine the best approaches for new features and system improvements.


• Code Quality: Review code developed by other developers and provide constructive feedback to ensure adherence to best practices, including style guidelines, code accuracy, testability, and efficiency.


• Documentation: Contribute to existing documentation and educational content, adapting materials based on product updates and user feedback to help developers and end-users succeed with our platform.


• Problem Solving: Triage product or system issues and debug, track, and resolve problems by analyzing the root causes and understanding the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.


• Project Management: Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables while balancing multiple concurrent initiatives in a fast-paced environment.


• Innovation: Bring fresh ideas from all areas of computer science, including data retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, data storage, security, and user experience.


• Continuous Improvement: Continuously improve our technology stack, development processes, and best practices as our platform evolves.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong technical foundations.


• Minimum of 2 years of experience in software development using one or more programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, C++, or Go.


• Minimum of 2 years of experience working with data systems, algorithms, and data structures with the ability to optimize performance and solve complex computational problems.


• Minimum of 2 years of experience with full stack development, including backend development with Java and frontend development with JavaScript and modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js.


• Strong understanding of web technologies, RESTful API design, and microservices architecture.


• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git, and collaborative development workflows.


• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex issues across multiple system components.


• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.


• Experience developing accessible technology that complies with WCAG guidelines and ensures inclusive access for users with disabilities.


• Experience building user-facing analytics programs and data visualization tools that transform complex data into actionable insights.


• Experience with large-scale ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) structures, including data processing, modeling, and storage solutions using technologies like Apache Beam, Dataflow, or similar frameworks.


• Experience in backend and distributed systems development, including designing for high availability, scalability, and fault tolerance.


• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.


• Knowledge of educational technology platforms and understanding of pedagogical principles that inform effective learning software design.


• Experience with Agile methodologies and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
