Overview

Accessia Health Foundation is expanding its impact and inviting recommendations for new members of our Board of Directors. As we deepen partnerships across healthcare, philanthropy, patient advocacy, and industry, strong board leadership is essential to advancing better health outcomes for the communities we serve.

Our Board is committed to integrating population health strategies into every aspect of our work. Board members provide strategic oversight, strengthen fundraising and donor engagement efforts, and steward the Foundation’s assets to ensure long term sustainability and growth.

Our Mission

Accessia Health, a national charitable patient assistance organization, is dedicated to eliminating healthcare barriers for people with rare or chronic health conditions. Comprehensive services include personalized case management, financial assistance, education, and legal aid support. Accessia Health works to ensure that every individual has access to the care they need to lead a healthier life.

Board of Directors Roles and Responsibilities

Accessia Health Foundation board members play a crucial role in supporting Accessia Health through fundraising, donor cultivation, and the management of assets. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
  • Assisting with the development of the Foundation budget and advocating for its funding
  • Secure funding and resources for the organization’s operations and programs by participating in fundraising activities and donor cultivation efforts
  • Represent Accessia Health Foundation to various external stakeholders, including media, community leaders, and funders
  • Attend fundraising and community events to help raise the organization’s profile and bring awareness to the mission
  • Manage Accessia Health Foundation’s assets, which may include investments or other forms of funding
  • Ensuring Accessia Health Foundation’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities served

Fundraising

Board Members will consider Accessia Health Foundation a philanthropic priority and are expected to make annual contributions that reflect that commitment. This collective participation enables Accessia Health to credibly solicit support from foundations, organizations, and individual donors. The Foundation expects 100 percent of Board Members to make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their personal capacity.

Term and Participation

Appointed and elected members serve a three-year term. Board members in good standing are eligible for a second term. Board meetings will be held quarterly, either virtually or in person. Board members are expected to attend all quarterly Board meetings, with exceptions only as outlined in the Accessia Health governing documents. Board members may also convene for ad hoc Board meetings to address specific or urgent matters facing the organization or review organizational, financial or governance matters.

Qualifications

Accessia Health Foundation has at least three openings on its Boards of Directors. Board members act in the broad interest of Accessia Health Foundation, not as representatives of specific constituencies, donors or assistance recipients. Nominees should possess qualities of vision and leadership and be able to commit the time and energy required for a three-year term on the date they are voted into service on the board. Board members and their immediate family members may not be employed by or have a material relationship with any pharmaceutical manufacturer or pharmacy.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Accessia Health’s mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
  • Extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
  • A commitment to and understanding of individuals living with rare and chronic health conditions, preferably based on work experience
  • Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of those with rare and chronic health conditions
