About the role


The MCE Lead directs and performs major component exchanges on wind turbines while leading field crews to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality work. This role combines the technical expertise of MCE Levels I–III with added responsibilities for crew leadership, planning, and site coordination.

Core Responsibilities

· Lead a team in performing turbine component exchanges (gearboxes, generators, blades, pitch bearings, hubs, etc.).

· Serve as on-site lead, ensuring safety, task allocation, and job flow.

· Execute heavy rigging, crane calling, generator alignments, LOTO, and up-tower leadership.

· Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues across all turbine components.

· Train, coach, and mentor technicians at Levels I–III; maximize individual contributions.

· Communicate with site leadership and RNWBL Ops on progress, risks, and close-out.

· Oversee tool readiness, work documentation, and compliance with OEM and RNWBL standards.

· Champion safety culture, enforce protocols, and model RNWBL values on site.

Must-Have Skills & Knowledge

· Deep understanding of turbine systems and all major mechanical components.

· Advanced troubleshooting in hydraulics, gearboxes, generators, and drivetrain.

· Proven ability to lead and motivate teams in the field.

· Strong communication with technicians, site reps, and customers.

· Solid knowledge of OSHA, LOTO, and safety best practices.

Qualifications

· High School Diploma or GED (technical training preferred).

· 4+ years of wind turbine maintenance experience with major component exchange.

· Prior crew leadership experience (Lead Tech, Foreman, or equivalent).

· Familiarity with OEM processes (GE, Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Nordex preferred).

· Valid driver’s license; CDL-A with air brake endorsement preferred/willing to obtain.

· Ability to travel extensively (4–6 weeks at a time, 90% domestic travel).

Passport preferred for international work.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

· Ability to climb and work at heights of 300+ feet.

· Meet OSHA weight requirements (≤300 lbs).

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs repetitively.
  • Work in all weather conditions and rotating shifts.
  • Signal and rig loads up to 100 tons.
