We're currently looking for dedicated Ramp Specialists to join our team at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) location.

What You'll Do as a Ramp Specialist

As a critical member of our ground operations team, you'll be responsible for a wide range of duties that keep our airport operations running like a well-oiled machine. Here's what you can expect in this role:

  • Provide exceptional service: Offer friendly assistance and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external customers, ensuring every passenger interaction leaves a lasting impression.
  • Work collaboratively: Partner with other ground operations teams to ensure the seamless success of our organization and meet flight takeoff schedules consistently.
  • Deliver outstanding customer support: Provide excellent service to individuals wishing to travel, use cargo, or baggage services by positioning aircraft at ramps and terminals.
  • Handle aircraft loading and unloading: Load, dump, service, guide, and direct organization aircraft with precision and attention to detail.
  • Manage baggage and cargo: Receive and record customer baggage, aircraft cargo, mail, and company materials as required, ensuring accuracy and security.
  • Execute loading operations: Handle all aspects of loading, stowing, and dumping items, baggage, airmail, aircraft cargo, and company materials according to predetermined plans received from Operations Specialists.
  • Transport equipment: Receive, deliver, and transport baggage and cargo to and from aircraft while maintaining detailed records regarding these responsibilities.
  • Manage air freight: Warehouse, gauge, stack, receive, and deliver air freight; check air freight handled against accompanying documentation to identify any misuse or discrepancies and correct routine errors.
  • Protect customer property: Safeguard customers' baggage, air freight, airmail, and COMAT from weather, loss, theft, damage, and/or destruction.
  • Use jetway equipment: Regularly use jetway stairs to deliver items checked at the gate to the aircraft cabin.
  • Review documentation: Examine freight documentation for accuracy and correct forms as needed.
  • Maintain aircraft cleanliness: Perform in-cabin cleaning manually, including sweeping upholstery, cleaning windows, galleys, and disposal containers according to appropriate documentation.
  • Service facilities: Clean and service lavatories, operate lavatory trucks, and dispose of contents according to established procedures.
  • Provisioning duties: May perform duties of a Provisioning Specialist, including loading aircraft cabin interiors for flights with equipment and supplies such as literature, disposal, and magazine compartments and grocery items according to relevant documentation. Maintain inventory of such items and supplies.
  • Equipment transportation: Transport cabin and cleaning equipment between aircraft storage areas.
  • Operate specialized equipment: Work and/or drive automated equipment such as belt loaders, air start units, lift trucks, pushback tugs, baggage trucks, lavatory trucks, and de-icers.
  • Move containers manually: Physically move around push carts and containers as required.
  • Navigate airport facilities: Work in and between passenger terminals, hangars, and airfreight facilities, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Work in various conditions: May be exposed to a wide variety of weather conditions, jet and equipment noises, exhaust, dirt, and dust for extended periods.
  • Complete documentation: Finish forms and documentation associated with work tasks according to established procedures and enter such information into the organization's information system as required.
  • Offer flexible support: Provide friendly support to all employees and clients. Has routine contact with individuals outside the organization such as delivery agents, carriers, and more.
  • Meet physical requirements: Must be able to meet any physical capacity requirements listed in this description.
  • Perform additional duties: May perform other work responsibilities as directed by the employee's supervisors.

Essential Qualifications


  • Team player mentality: Ability to work cooperatively with others as part of a team and function effectively under stressful situations.

  • Technical aptitude: Ability to understand documents, follow instructions, learn, and comprehend ramp operations procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Problem-solving skills: Must be aware of hazardous situations and able to handle emergencies on a case-by-case basis.

  • Time management: Must work under close time constraints to achieve fast turns of aircraft.

  • Compliance mindset: Must satisfy all grooming standards as outlined in the Ground Operations Employee Handbook and the Work Agreement.

  • Communication skills: Must be aware of moving vehicles or aircraft and use radio equipment. Must be able to convey information and instructions verbally as well as via radio equipment.

  • Education: No education requirement

  • Experience: No experience requirement

  • Licensing: Must have a valid state motor vehicle operator's license

  • Security clearance: Must be able to obtain a SIDA badge and meet all local airport requirements

  • Work authorization: U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. is required. No current or future work authorization sponsorship is available.

  • Location requirement: Must currently be a resident of the state of North Carolina to be considered for the Ramp Specialist position in Raleigh-Durham, NC

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous experience in airport operations, logistics, or related fields

  • Experience operating heavy equipment or machinery

  • Customs Seal certification or ability to obtain one for international flight operations

  • Strong communication skills in English (additional languages are always a plus)

Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding role that requires you to be on your feet and active throughout your shift. You must be able to:


  • Lift and move items of 70 pounds or more on a regular basis

  • Frequently lift loads of 40 to 50 pounds on elevated surfaces

  • Climb, bend, bow, crawl, and stoop regularly and for extended periods

  • Work in confined or elevated places

  • Carry heavy items up and down jetway stairs

  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Tolerate exposure to jet and equipment noises, exhaust, dirt, and dust for extended periods
