Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Big Data Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain our enterprise-level data processing systems. In this role, you will be responsible for building robust big data solutions that power critical business functions across the organization. You will work alongside talented engineers and data professionals to architect scalable data pipelines, implement efficient processing frameworks, and ensure data integrity across our complex data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Big Data Software Engineer at arenaflex, you will take ownership of complex technical initiatives and drive them to successful completion. Your primary responsibilities will include:


  • Lead Complex Data Initiatives: Drive and manage moderately complex projects and initiatives within our big data environment, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and timelines.

  • Architectural Planning: Contribute to large-scale planning of data strategies, including infrastructure design, processing frameworks, and data flow optimization.

  • Software Development: Design, code, test, debug, and document applications and projects related to our technology landscape, including system upgrades and new implementations.

  • Technical Analysis: Review complex technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of emerging technologies and methodologies to determine optimal solutions.

  • Problem Resolution: Resolve complex technical issues and lead cross-functional teams to meet existing client needs or address new business requirements, utilizing a strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with peers, colleagues, and stakeholders to resolve technical challenges and achieve project goals through effective communication and teamwork.

  • Team Leadership: Lead project initiatives and serve as an escalation point, providing guidance and direction to less experienced team members.

  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all developed solutions, ensuring knowledge transfer and maintainability.

Required Qualifications & Skills

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and demonstrated experience:


  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Programming Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of software programming experience, or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.

  • Big Data Technologies: Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience with Hadoop ecosystem and distributed computing frameworks.

  • Database Experience: 3+ years of experience with Teradata and MongoDB databases, including design, optimization, and management.

  • Cloud Platforms: 3+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure and services.

  • Version Control: 3+ years of experience using GitHub and Bitbucket for source code management and collaborative development.

  • Development Lifecycle: 3+ years of experience planning, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting applications and projects.

  • Programming Languages: 3+ years of experience with Python and Unix/Shell scripting, along with familiarity in Scala, Flash, HBase, Oozie, Flume, and Kafka.

  • Automation Tools: 3+ years of experience with Ansible for configuration management and infrastructure automation.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following skills and experiences would be highly valued in candidates:


  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across all organizational levels.

  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment with a proactive approach to problem-solving and team success.

  • ETL Development: Experience designing ETL data streams using mappings and workflows to extract data from SQL Server and performing data migration and transformation from Oracle/Access/Excel sheets using SQL Server SSIS.

  • Industry Experience: Previous experience working as a programmer in the financial services or banking industry.
