About the Role

In this role, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including product owners, data analysts, and business partners to deliver robust data solutions that scale.
You'll be responsible for contributing to the overall architecture, frameworks, and standards for processing and evaluating big data. This includes evaluating new technologies, tools, and frameworks aimed at processing large volumes of data efficiently. You'll translate product backlog items into logical units of engineering work and implement distributed data processing pipelines using tools and languages prevalent in the big data ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Implementation: Design and implement data products and features in collaboration with product owners, data analysts, and business partners to meet business objectives and analytical needs.
- Architecture Development: Contribute to the overall architecture, frameworks, and standards for processing and evaluating big data, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Technology Evaluation: Evaluate new technologies, tools, and frameworks aimed at processing large volumes of data, recommending improvements and innovations.
- Pipeline Development: Translate product backlog items into logical units of engineering work and implement distributed data processing pipelines using modern big data technologies.
- Tool and Framework Development: Build tools, user-defined functions, libraries, and frameworks to better enable data flow patterns across the organization.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering leads and other teams to ensure quality solutions are implemented and technical best practices are defined and followed.
- Testing and Quality Assurance: Create and participate in automated unit tests and participate in integration tests to ensure data integrity and system reliability.
- CI/CD Implementation: Use and extend continuous integration and deployment frameworks to streamline development workflows.
- Troubleshooting and Analysis: Troubleshoot data issues and perform root cause analysis to resolve operational and performance issues efficiently.
- Team Problem-Solving: Work in teams to resolve operational and performance issues, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Computer Information Systems from an accredited institution.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in data engineering, big data development, or a related technical position.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java.
- Extensive experience with big data technologies including Apache Spark, Apache Hive, and Hadoop ecosystem tools.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS) including EMR, Lambda, and other managed services.
- Knowledge of data pipeline orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
- Experience with data processing platforms like Databricks.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
- Proficiency in implementing automated unit testing and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience creating data feeds and data integration solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with real-time streaming data processing frameworks such as Apache Kafka or Apache Flink.
- Knowledge of data warehousing solutions and modern data architecture patterns like data lakehouse.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with machine learning pipelines and MLOps practices.
- Understanding of data governance, data quality, and metadata management.
- Experience working in agile development environments.
- Industry certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
