The Role: Senior Data Scientist – Conversion Intelligence

Conversion data is the foundation for advertising reporting and advertising machine learning modeling at arenaflex. Ensuring that our conversion data delivers a high signal-to-noise ratio of users' commercial intent is crucial for arenaflex to deliver business value to our advertisers. We are seeking an experienced data scientist to help us shape the approach to conversion data quality and develop solutions for enhancing the data foundation for arenaflex's advertising system.

In this role, you will work on many exciting data science challenges in this new frontier, including how to define and analyze data quality, how to establish causal signals from observational data, and how to unlock the potential of ML model performance through the lens of data-centric AI. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data science, advertising technology, and product development.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Data Scientist on our Conversion Intelligence team, you will play a pivotal role in advancing arenaflex's advertising capabilities. Your responsibilities will include:

• Deep-Dive Analysis: Conduct comprehensive analysis to discover patterns in real-world user conversion data, identify various data quality issues, and quantify their impact on our advertising system. You'll leverage advanced statistical techniques to uncover hidden patterns and trends that drive business value.
• Causal Inference: Analyze causal connections between users' online behaviors and their conversions, discover causal signals in data, and develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. You'll apply both online experimentation and observational study methods to establish cause-and-effect relationships.
• Automated Solutions Design: Design and prototype automated solutions that detect quality issues in our conversion data, develop high-signal training labels and features to improve advertising ML model performance, and collaborate with engineers to integrate them into our advertising system.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product and Engineering teams as a thought partner, provide data-informed recommendations that shape the future roadmap and drive the long-term strategy for building a high-quality conversion data foundation.
• Data Quality Leadership: Lead initiatives to establish data quality standards, implement anomaly detection systems, and create robust data governance frameworks that ensure reliability across the organization.
• ML Model Enhancement: Develop and implement machine learning models designed to work with biased, incomplete, or noisy training data, focusing on feature engineering and model evaluation to improve overall system performance.

Essential Qualifications

• Professional Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience as a data scientist, applied scientist, or machine learning engineer in a technology company or equivalent research environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Proven ability to apply scientific methods to solve real-world problems on web-scale data. Strong proficiency in SQL/Hive and expertise in at least one scripting language (preferably Python or R).
• Analytical Skills: Strong business and product sense with the ability to shape vague questions into well-defined analyses and success metrics that drive business decisions.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to management and product teams. You should be comfortable translating complex technical concepts into actionable business insights.
• Causal Inference Expertise: Experience in causal inference and measurement, including familiarity with measuring causal impact through both online experimentation and observational studies.
• Data Quality Experience: Experience in data quality-related work, including quality assessment, anomaly detection, data cleaning, and data governance. You should have a strong understanding of how to identify and mitigate data quality issues.
• Machine Learning Skills: Proven ability to design and implement machine learning models, preferably with biased, incomplete, or noisy training data. Deep knowledge of feature design and model assessment is strongly preferred.
• Independent Problem Solving: Proven ability to independently explore an ambiguous domain and shape the product roadmap and strategy through analytical efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field


• Experience with advertising technology or digital marketing analytics


• Knowledge of privacy-preserving analytical methods


• Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks such as Spark or Hadoop


• Experience working with large-scale advertising data systems

Education Requirements

Bachelor degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics, or related discipline. Advanced degrees are a plus but not required; equivalent professional experience will be considered.

Final compensation is based on a range of factors including location, travel, relevant prior experience, or specific skills and expertise. In an attempt to provide more transparency, we're sharing the base salary range for this role.
