Special Inspections Engineer

Prince William County is a growing, diverse community seeking a full-time Special Inspections Engineer. This role involves supporting residential and commercial construction projects by performing quality assurance inspections and ensuring compliance with building codes and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings and engineering reports
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure public safety in completed facilities
• Visit active construction sites to perform quality assurance inspections
• Ensure work is progressing according to the approved plans, building code requirements and County policy and procedures
• Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, and third-party inspectors to ensure code compliance and construction safety

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• 1 year of relevant experience, such as work as a design professional, construction inspector, plan reviewer, or code enforcement inspector
• Must be certified as an E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) within 18 months of employment
• Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development as a Commercial Building Inspector within 18 months of employment, in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
• Must become certified as a Residential Building Inspector within 36 months of employment in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
• Must possess a valid driver's license
• Must pass a DMV records check
• 1 year of engineering experience
• Skills using MS Office and occasionally structural and geotechnical engineering software and CAD
• Experience with computer data entry to prepare, maintain, and update reports under different formats
• Experience applying code knowledge in order to perform quality control reviews
• Experience scheduling maintenance and inspections prior to building inspections
• Technical and administrative plan review and inspection of building construction to evaluate code compliance in administering the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Codes
• Experience in the Reference Standards of the Building Code
