About the Role: Staff Data Scientist - Search Retrieval

As a Staff Data Scientist at arenaflex, you'll be entrusted with owning and driving one of our most critical workstreams. You'll lead a team of talented engineers and scientists, guiding them toward achieving ambitious product and technical goals. Your expertise will be instrumental in enhancing our search algorithms, ensuring that every job seeker receives the most relevant, accurate, and helpful results possible.

In this role, you'll dive deep into massive datasets, formulate complex problem statements, and develop predictive models that scale to production environments. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with proof-of-concept machine learning solutions, scale them to production, and run iterative A/B experiments to continuously improve our matching technology. The work you do will directly impact how job seekers experience our platform and, ultimately, their career journeys.

What You'll Be Doing: Key Responsibilities

As a Staff Data Scientist specializing in Search Retrieval at arenaflex, your days will be filled with challenging and meaningful work:

• Algorithm Enhancement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance and optimize search algorithms for improved accuracy, relevance, and overall user experience. You'll be solving complex problems that directly impact how millions of people interact with our platform.
• Machine Learning Innovation: Experiment with Proof of Concept Machine Learning model developments, scale them to production, and run iterative A/B experiments to improve our matching technology while collaborating with other teams across the organization.
• Project Leadership: Define and clarify project objectives, deliverables, and success metrics in collaboration with cross-functional teams. You'll break down large machine learning projects into manageable pieces that deliver incremental business value.
• Stakeholder Communication: Act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and understanding of project goals and outcomes. You'll translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights.
• Team Mentorship: Mentor and develop other software engineers, data scientists, and Machine Learning Engineers across teams. You'll help grow the next generation of talent at arenaflex.
• Technical Representation: Represent arenaflex at major Machine Learning conferences such as Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), and International Conference on Learning Representations (ICML). You'll help position arenaflex as a leader in the AI/ML community.
• Continuous Innovation: Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field, evangelize your team's work, and drive innovation within the organization.

What We're Looking For: Qualifications & Skills

We're seeking a passionate individual who loves designing and building machine learning systems, someone who thrives on thought-provoking assignments, is eager to learn, and wants to work with a variety of technologies to "help people get jobs." Here's what we're looking for:

Essential Qualifications:

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields. Advanced degrees are a plus but not required.
• Industry Experience: 3+ years of professional experience as an AI Engineer, Data Scientist, or Machine Learning Engineer in a production environment.
• Production ML Experience: Prior success in deploying impactful Machine Learning solutions to large-scale production systems while collaborating across teams.
• Technical Foundation: Solid understanding of data systems and algorithms, with the ability to design and implement complex machine learning pipelines.
• Deep Learning Expertise: Knowledge and hands-on experience working with Deep Learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks.
• Ownership Mindset: Sense of ownership and responsibility as a key contributor in both technical and product domains.
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication in English, with the ability to effectively engage both technical and business audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with search retrieval systems, recommendation engines, or matching algorithms


• Background in NLP (Natural Language Processing) and information retrieval


• Experience with large-scale distributed computing systems


• Track record of publishing research papers or contributing to open-source projects


• Experience mentoring or leading junior team members

Salary & Compensation Details

We believe in transparency and fairness. The base salary range for this role is $30 - $40 USD per hour. Actual salaries will depend on factors including location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of arenaflex's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards include quarterly bonuses, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), Paid Time Off coverage, and many region-specific benefits.
