Position Overview
arenaflex is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Assistant Controller to lead our center bookkeeping and monetary operations capabilities. This is a key leadership role that will be instrumental in driving the financial success of our organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to navigate complex financial landscapes across multiple disciplines.
In this position, you will be responsible for regulating monthly closes, internal and external reporting, audits, systems, and policies. You will report directly to the Controller and work closely with the VP of Finance, cross-functional leaders, and key external partners. This is a hands-on, impactful role that offers significant opportunities for professional growth and development.
The Assistant Controller will serve as a central figure in building and maintaining a high-quality finance group at arenaflex. You will have the opportunity to directly influence how our financial operations function and thrive in an environment that values quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
As an Assistant Controller at arenaflex, you will:
- Lead Core Accounting Teams: Direct core GL bookkeeping teams covering balance sheet, opex, and global accounting. Identify and create opportunities for colleagues' development and advancement within the organization.
- Ensure Reporting Accuracy: Take ownership of the preparation, audit, and accuracy of all financial, regulatory, and investor reporting. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Drive Process Innovation: Support new and existing research and products by working cross-functionally to manage risk, and build and maintain flexible accounting processes that scale with our growth.
- Champion Automation: Identify opportunities for automation of manual cycles and lead system implementations to streamline bookkeeping and reporting processes. Leverage technology to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage External Relationships: Manage key service provider relationships with auditors, outsourced accountants, technical accounting advisors, and strategic partners. Ensure high-quality deliverables and timely communications.
- Financial Analysis: Work with the broader arenaflex Finance team to analyze financial performance, provide recommendations for senior leadership advancement, and support key decision-making processes.
- Team Development: Mentor and develop team members, assist with setting goals, and unblock universal issues. Identify opportunities for cross-functional projects and take decisive action to lead them.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you must have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Three or more years of progressive experience in senior bookkeeping leadership roles at a combination of public companies, late-stage startups, and/or public accounting firms.
- CPA or CA certification with a deep understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements for various types of legal entities.
- Strong project management skills including attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and lead high-priority initiatives on simultaneous timelines.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to land complex concepts across different audiences.
- Experience working with modern programming and systems, particularly NetSuite and Zip.
- Strong analytical skills, including working knowledge of SQL and data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following would be advantageous:
- Experience in the technology or AI industry.
- Knowledge of international accounting standards and multi-entity financial reporting.
- Background in fast-paced, high-growth startup environments.
- Experience with ERP system implementations and process improvements.
- Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
