Commercial PV Solar Designer (NY/NJ/CT/PA Applicants ONLY)

Talva Energy is seeking a Commercial PV Solar Designer to help bring clean energy projects from concept to construction. This role is critical to the successful execution of our solar pipeline, and the right candidate will play a key role in designing efficient, code-compliant, and cost-effective solar systems. Success in this position means delivering high-quality plan sets on time, ensuring compliance with all local and national codes, and working closely with our project managers, engineers, and permitting teams. Responsibilities:
• Develop preliminary and final commercial PV system designs using CAD software
• Generate plan sets for interconnection, permitting, and construction
• Conduct site assessments (in person as needed) and translate findings into accurate design layouts
• Coordinate with internal teams and external engineers to ensure design accuracy and code compliance
• Ensure designs meet AHJ requirements, NEC codes, and utility standards
• Use tools like Helioscope for system modeling and performance estimates
• Maintain accurate records and design documentation within Insightly CRM
• Support project development by identifying potential design or permitting constraints early in the process
Qualifications:
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent drafting software
• Solid understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC) and local AHJ permitting requirements
• 2+ years of experience designing commercial rooftop and/or ground-mount solar systems
• You stay up to date on code changes and maintain an internal record of relevant updates
• Highly detail-oriented with a strong track record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities
• Experience with Helioscope strongly preferred
• Familiarity with Insightly CRM is a plus
• Willingness to conduct site visits as needed and attend monthly in-person team meetings in Warwick, NY
Location:
This position is based out of Warwick, NY headquarters, with the flexibility to work a hybrid remote-home-office 50% and travel 50%. Regularly required project travel will be mostly in the northeast region, but at times may be beyond this region. The company covers the cost of company travel. Candidates must be based out of NY, NJ, or CT, but preferrable in the NYC metropolitan area.
Compensation and Benefits:
