Position Overview
The District Pharmacy Manager serves as the clinical expert and operational leader for pharmacy services within an assigned geographic region. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of clinical quality, driving the implementation of Health and Wellness programs, and managing the performance of pharmacy operations across multiple store locations. The District Pharmacy Manager acts as the primary clinical resource for Pharmacy Managers and works closely with Regional Healthcare Leadership to execute strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Quality Management
- Clinical Correspondence Resolution: Field and resolve clinical correspondences raised from stores, settling patient complaints that are clinical in nature with precision, empathy, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Clinical Issue Escalation: Oversee Stage One and Stage Two of the MEANS approach for escalated clinical quality issues, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
- Clinical Expertise: Serve as the clinical master for retail pharmacy operations, providing expert guidance on clinical matters to Pharmacy Managers and store teams.
- Direct Clinical Engagement: Engage directly with Pharmacy Managers on clinical issues, offering mentorship, clinical updates, and support for complex patient situations.
- Rx Landscape Advisory: Maintain strong knowledge of the evolving prescription landscape to advise on potential opportunities such as new patient acquisition and buyout initiatives.
Hospital & Healthcare System Partnerships
- Relationship Development: Develop and maintain relationships with existing hospital systems as directed by Regional Healthcare Leadership, fostering collaborative partnerships that benefit patient care continuity.
- Healthcare Integration: Work to integrate arenaflex pharmacy services with hospital discharge processes and outpatient care pathways.
Health & Wellness Program Implementation
- Program Execution: Ensure implementation of Pharmacy Health and Wellness programs and corporate strategic initiatives through focused store visits and comprehensive training of District Managers.
- Regional Leadership Collaboration: Through collaboration with the Chief Pharmacy and Retail Operations, hold District Managers accountable for execution and implementation of healthcare strategies.
- Performance Monitoring: Manage regional execution through metrics and reports, using feedback from District Managers to target specific stores requiring additional support.
- Community Engagement: Attend events that enhance local health and wellness relationships, representing arenaflex as a community health partner.
Business Performance Management
- Financial Assessment: Work with Chief Retail and Pharmacy Operations to assess regional healthcare financials and KPIs, creating action plans to address performance gaps.
- Business Forecasting: Conduct business estimating and analysis for business planning meetings, providing data-driven insights for strategic decisions.
- Pharmacy Development: Partner with Chief Retail and Pharmacy Operations to develop pharmacy improvement plans, holding District Managers accountable for plan execution.
- Regional Reporting: Provide data and insights to the Regional Healthcare Chief on Pharmacy Health and Wellness initiatives and successes.
Business Planning & Strategy
- Strategic Input: Provide input to Chief Pharmacy and Retail Strategy on strategic priorities to inform regional planning.
- Performance Feedback: Give feedback to District Pharmacy Representative on healthcare financials and KPIs to inform action plans.
People & Performance Management
- Academic Partnerships: Own, develop, and manage relationships with local schools, colleges, and professional associations to build a strong talent pipeline.
- Talent Strategy: Own the pharmacy manager talent strategy and pipeline, setting recruitment procedures, identifying and mentoring high-potential pharmacy managers, and managing Performance Improvement Plans for pharmacists.
- Performance Reviews: Provide input to Chief Pharmacy and Retail Strategy on District Manager performance reviews.
- Pharmacy Engagement: Be responsible for overall pharmacist engagement, focusing on training and developing District Managers to enable execution of pharmacy responsibilities.
- Compliance Leadership: Ensure compliance with all corporate policies, relevant business regulations, and consistently fair treatment of all team members.
- Regular Touchpoints: Hold monthly touchpoints with District Managers on STARS reports to monitor performance and provide coaching.
- Clinical Quality Compliance: Ensure compliance on clinical quality-related events, including coaching, training, and through resolution.
- Operational Consultations: Hold regular touchpoints and development discussions with Health Outcomes Pharmacist and Pharmacy Scheduler.
- Scheduling & Cost Management: Responsible for pharmacist scheduling, payroll management, and cost control within the region.
Training & Self-Development
- Continuous Learning: Participate in training programs and support training efforts where necessary to maintain current knowledge of clinical, regulatory, and operational developments.
- Professional Growth: Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance leadership capabilities and clinical expertise.
Essential Qualifications
- Pharmacy Degree: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Current, valid pharmacist license in good standing within the assigned state(s).
- Management Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of pharmacy management experience, with demonstrated success in leading teams and driving performance.
- Clinical Knowledge: Strong clinical background with the ability to address complex clinical questions and quality issues.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels.
- Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills with experience in financial management, KPI tracking, and data-driven decision making.
- Computer Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and pharmacy management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: MBA, MHA, or other advanced business/ healthcare administration degree preferred.
- Specialty Certification: Additional certifications in clinical pharmacy, diabetes management, or immunizations.
- Multi-Unit Experience: Prior experience managing multiple pharmacy locations or districts.
- Hospital Integration: Experience in hospital/health system partnerships or integrated healthcare delivery.
