**Job Responsibilities:**
As a Data Entry Operator, you will be responsible for performing a variety of clerical and support activities necessary to assist in laboratory operations and all areas of specimen receipt and registration. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Notifying appropriate personnel in cases of unacceptable samples (e.g., mislabeled, unlabeled, discrepant information) and recording all specific information in the appropriate department incident log.
* Performing other duties as assigned by management.
* Documenting via log any specimen receipt issues and hospital and laboratory computer systems for either registration and/or accessioning.
* Adhering to the laboratory's Quality Assurance policies and procedures and following OSHA regulations for PPE (Personnel Protective Equipment) such as lab coats, gloves, and protective shields when in contact with blood and body fluids.
* Assisting in the training of new clerical accessioning staff by coaching and mentoring.
* Accurately monitoring pertinent patient demographics and information (e.g., lab test results) to the appropriate designated department (e.g., RN, Manager, or Designee).
* Resolving problems with specimen receipt and appropriateness of test requisitions orders.
* Prioritizing work in an efficient manner to register to acquire appropriate billing account numbers for date of service and/or accession pathology specimens to acquire appropriate laboratory accession case numbers in a timely and accurate manner.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
To qualify for this role, you must have:
* A High School or GED diploma.
* Good communication (both oral and written), organization, detail-oriented, and customer service skills.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
While not required, we prefer candidates with:
* An Associate's Degree in Business or a related field.
* 1-2 years of related experience.
* 1-2 years of experience in coding, billing, registration, or insurance.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
* Ability to utilize arenaflex and laboratory computer systems for either registration and/or accessioning.
