Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Transportation Data Analyst to join our Business Intelligence team. In this pivotal role, you'll work with massive, complex datasets to uncover patterns, identify opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations that directly influence our transportation operations. You'll partner closely with operations and finance teams, delivering the insights they need to make timely, impactful decisions.

Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis & Insights: Work with large, messy, disparate datasets and conduct ad-hoc analyses to rapidly inform critical business decisions. You'll be the go-to person when leadership needs quick, accurate insights to guide strategic choices.
- ETL Development: Create robust ETL processes and procedures that pull data from multiple source systems and centralize it into unified, accessible tables. You'll ensure data integrity and consistency across our analytics infrastructure.
- Visualization & Reporting: Develop compelling data visualizations using Tableau to display and quantify the impact of operational changes and specific business challenges. Your dashboards will tell stories that drive action.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with team members and cross-functional groups on a regular basis to establish credibility and build strong working relationships. You'll partner with Operations, Finance, and Product teams on data accuracy, completeness, and latency across multiple systems.
- Stakeholder Partnership: Analyze stakeholder needs and partner with them to share relevant information. Understand their pain points and deliver solutions that address their specific challenges.
- Automation & Efficiency: Leverage scripting languages (Python preferred) to automate repetitive tasks including screenshot generation, metrics prioritization, and outlier recognition. You'll free up time for higher-value analysis.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Document your processes meticulously and share your expertise with your peers. Create guides, templates, and best practices that benefit the entire team.
- Mentorship & Leadership: As you grow into a Subject Matter Expert, mentor your colleagues and help them develop their own analytical capabilities. Lead by example and foster a culture of continuous learning.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a candidate who brings a unique blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and interpersonal skills. Here's what will make you successful in this role:
Essential Qualifications
- SQL Expertise (2-4 years): Exceptional SQL skills with the ability to manipulate data from multiple tables while maintaining data integrity. You should be comfortable writing complex queries, optimizing performance, and working with various SQL dialects.
- Tableau Proficiency (1-2 years): Creativity with a User Experience foundation to develop impactful Tableau Dashboards. You should have a passion for making data accessible and visually appealing to end users.
- Business Operations Fluency: Capability to understand and root cause business problems. You don't just see numbers—you understand what they mean for the business and how to translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Supply Chain Background: Ideally, you'll bring experience in Supply Chain operations, with preference for transportation or logistics experience. Understanding the nuances of moving goods will help you hit the ground running.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities with the capacity to work cross-functionally. You must be comfortable explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and translating business needs into technical requirements.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (Computer Science, Statistics, Business, Engineering, or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced experience with SQL and Tableau, including dashboard optimization and performance tuning
- Experience with e-commerce operations or parcel service operations
- Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages for automation and data analysis
- Experience with data manipulation tools such as Knime, Alteryx, R, or Tableau Prep
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and big data technologies
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their business applications
