Position Overview
We are currently looking for an experienced and enthusiastic High School Math Tutor to provide personalized instruction to students in the Chattanooga area. This is a part-time position that offers flexible hours and the opportunity to work with students in the comfort of their own homes. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of high school mathematics curriculum, including Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and general math concepts, as well as a passion for inspiring students to reach their full potential.
As a Math Tutor at arenaflex, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality tutoring sessions that address each student's unique learning needs. You will help students with homework preparation, test preparation, concept review, and skill-building exercises. Your goal will be to not only improve students' math abilities but also to build their confidence and foster a positive attitude toward mathematics.
Key Responsibilities
As a valued member of the arenaflex team, you will be responsible for the following duties:
- Deliver Personalized Instruction: Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions in high school mathematics, adapting teaching methods to suit each student's learning style and pace. Focus on areas such as Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and general math concepts.
- Homework and Test Preparation: Assist students with homework assignments, test preparation, and exam review. Help students develop effective study strategies and time management skills.
- Session Reporting: Provide detailed session reports for our office and families within twenty-four hours of each tutoring session. Document student progress, areas of improvement, and recommendations for future sessions.
- Balance Tutoring Hours: Effectively manage and balance tutoring hours for each assigned student, ensuring consistent and productive sessions.
- Student-Centered Teaching: Successfully and professionally teach students to fit their individual needs, using a variety of instructional techniques and resources.
- Client Communication: Service existing clients' concerns, questions, and requests promptly and professionally. Maintain positive relationships with students and their families.
- Enrollment Monitoring: Follow up with the office when a student's enrollment package is low on hours, ensuring continuity of service.
- Session Preparation: Prepare accordingly for each tutoring session by developing lesson plans tailored to each student's needs and goals.
- Technology Proficiency: Utilize computer software, databases, and data entry systems to manage student records, session notes, and scheduling.
- Reliable Attendance: Maintain a reliable schedule and arrive promptly to all scheduled sessions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in the education field and industry is preferred. Prior experience in tutoring or teaching in specialized education fields is highly valued.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Strong knowledge of high school mathematics, including Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and related subjects. Must be able to explain complex mathematical concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Teaching Skills: Ability to adapt to different learning styles and develop customized lesson plans for each student. Must possess strong presentation and communication skills.
- Administrative Skills: Experience with basic database and data entry tasks. Strong typing skills and proficiency with PC operations are required.
- Preparation and Planning: Must be able to prepare lesson plans and educational materials in advance of each tutoring session.
- Interpersonal Skills: Having a personality suited for working with different types of students, including those who may be struggling or resistant to learning.
- Transportation: Reliable transportation with current car insurance is a must. Must be able to travel to student locations in Chattanooga, Ooltewah, Harrison, and Hixson.
- Technology: Access to the internet, a computer, and a smartphone for communication, scheduling, and reporting purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Credentials: Credentialed tutors and/or graduate degrees in Education, Mathematics, or a related field are a plus but not a requirement.
- Specialized Experience: Experience teaching specific math disciplines such as AP Calculus, Algebra II, or Statistics is advantageous.
- Certifications: Teaching certification or tutoring certifications from recognized institutions are preferred but not mandatory.
