The Role: Senior Big Data Engineer
As a Senior Big Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining our enterprise big data platform. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams including data scientists, business analysts, product owners, and utility teams to understand business requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions. Your expertise in distributed computing frameworks and your passion for data quality will ensure that arenaflex continues to deliver innovative, data-driven solutions that exceed customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Business and Utility Teams: Work closely with business stakeholders and utility teams to define, outline, and capture comprehensive business requirements. Translate functional needs into technical specifications that drive our big data initiatives forward.
- Develop Voice of Customer (VoC) Analytics: Build and enhance our Voice of Customer analytics capabilities. Leverage these insights to transform raw data into meaningful metrics within our cornerstone big data platform, enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Design Robust Data Architecture: Architect and implement scalable, resilient data models that support optimal data processing and standardized metric definitions. Ensure the architecture can handle massive volumes of data while maintaining performance and reliability.
- Build Big Data Solutions: Develop and deploy big data and batch/real-time analytical solutions using cutting-edge technologies including Hadoop, HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, Spark, and Python. Create innovative solutions that deliver actionable insights to business users.
- Ensure Data Quality and Accuracy: Implement rigorous testing methodologies at variable and use-case levels to guarantee data quality and accuracy. Develop comprehensive validation frameworks that maintain the integrity of our data assets.
- Optimize Computing Systems: Provide technical guidance and recommendations to enhance the efficiency of computing systems within the big data ecosystem. Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies.
- Drive Consumer Story Analysis: Lead consumer story analysis and elaboration efforts. Design and develop software programs, explore automation opportunities, and build tools that streamline data processing workflows.
- Automate Manual Processes: Proactively identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and repetitive processes. Develop automation solutions that improve operational efficiency, reduce errors, and free up team members to focus on higher-value work.
- Collaborate with Partners: Partner with stakeholders from various business units to prioritize, define, develop, and test data solutions for diverse use cases. Ensure alignment between technical implementations and business objectives throughout the end-to-end process.
Essential Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience with Hive/Hadoop, PySpark, Python, and Shell scripting languages. Demonstrated proficiency in development, launch management, and troubleshooting for data-driven projects.
- Agile Methodology: Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies, including experience working in sprint-based environments where small increments of product are delivered at regular intervals to business stakeholders.
- Collaborative Skills: Strong ability to collaborate effectively with relationship managers, product owners, and business stakeholders. Excellent communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.
- Data Engineering Fundamentals: Solid understanding of data engineering principles, including data modeling, ETL processes, and data pipeline development.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex data issues and optimize performance in distributed computing environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Knowledge of real-time streaming technologies (Kafka, Flink, or similar)
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Background in financial services or payments industry
- Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar)
- Strong SQL skills and knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases
