About the Role
As a Data Center IT Infrastructure Professional at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in supporting client requests within our state-of-the-art data centers. You will be responsible for addressing client inquiries through help tickets from inception to resolution with minimal or no supervision. This position offers an exciting blend of hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and client interaction, making it ideal for professionals who thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
Your primary responsibilities will include troubleshooting hardware issues with servers, network devices, cabling, and power connectivity. You will also be involved in racking and stacking equipment, installing Power Distribution Units (PDUs), creating and managing documentation, and occasionally supporting service desk functions such as participating in phone lines, performing desktop support, and shipping equipment including computers, VoIP telephones, and peripherals.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Installation and Deployment: Unpack, stock, and install client equipment such as servers, storage devices, and network appliances into client racks with precision and attention to detail.
- Asset Management: Manage client assets effectively, including performing inventory audits, receiving and delivering hardware, and maintaining accurate records of all equipment.
- Project Coordination: Coordinate technical tasks with internal groups and manage service requests to ensure timely resolution of all issues.
- Cabling Infrastructure: Install cabling and cable connections per arenaflex or client specifications, including proper labeling and documentation of all connections.
- Hardware Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot enterprise-level hardware issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions promptly.
- Component Replacement: Perform replacement of DIMMs, hard drives, power supplies, and other components within servers, storage, and network devices.
- Instruction Implementation: Understand and execute instructions provided by clients and internal teams accurately and efficiently.
- Licensing and Decommissioning: Handle equipment licensing and decommissioning processes in accordance with established procedures.
- Cross-Connection and Carrier Support: Install cross-connections and work with Telco carriers to investigate and resolve circuit-related issues.
- Network Cabling Expertise: Install and troubleshoot Cat 5E, CAT6, single-mode, and multi-mode patch cables with proficiency in industry best practices.
- Data Center Infrastructure: Install data center infrastructure materials including racks and cabinets with grounding, cable tray and ladder systems, cable management, copper and fiber networking cables, copper and fiber patch panels, and other materials necessary for data center operations.
- Power Distribution: Perform installation and maintenance on Power Distribution Units within client enclosures, ensuring optimal power distribution and reliability.
- Ticket Management: Work within a standard ticketing system, providing clear, timely, and appropriate client communications throughout the resolution process.
- Stakeholder Communication: Regularly communicate with employees, contractors, and clients via telephone, email, or ticketing system. Occasionally participate in call bridges to investigate and validate infrastructure-related issues.
- Change Control Compliance: Adhere to Change Control processes and standards to ensure compliance and minimize disruption to services.
- Desktop Support: Occasionally provide corporate desktop support services including PC imaging, printer support, client account administration, and other hardware, software, telecommunications, and communication services with assistance from desktop technicians.
- Incident Management: Act as a communication coordinator and situation manager during any critical incident call bridge events.
- Vendor Support: Support third-party vendor activities as needed to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Additional Duties: Perform various other duties as assigned to support team objectives and client satisfaction.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: 3-5 years of data center environment or help desk experience is required.
- Certifications: CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent experience required. CompTIA Network+ and BICSI Installer 1 certification preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of data center cycles and design, including power, cooling, and redundancy concepts.
- Airflow Management: Working knowledge of airflow management best practices to optimize data center efficiency.
- Hardware Expertise: Working knowledge of PC hardware with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware-related issues.
- Networking: Understanding of networking components and infrastructure, including servers, switches, network routers, and patch panels.
- Cabling Skills: Experience with cable management and knowledge of how to run fiber and copper in a data center, including proper labeling.
- Testing Equipment: Knowledge of copper and fiber cable testing equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting and issue resolution skills with the ability to think critically and make decisions related to outage risk assessment.
- Physical Capabilities: Ability to work with material handling equipment including server lifts and bed jacks.
- Teamwork: Ability to demonstrate effective team and interpersonal skills.
- Systems Experience: Experience with data center incident resolution, asset management, and logistics.
- Attendance: Regular, predictable attendance is essential for satisfactory performance.
- Software Skills: Proficiency with standard desktop PC tools and applications such as MS Office, MS Outlook, internet browsers, and more.
- Enterprise Systems: Experience with Active Directory, Office 365, and enterprise-level ticketing systems.
- Peripherals: Experience with computers, desktops, docking stations, and enterprise-level peripherals.
- Incident Response: Experience participating and supporting critical incidents including incident call bridges, communications, and coordination of critical incidents.
- Technical Tools: Understanding of console cables, basic network commands, and SSH/Telnet clients such as Putty.
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
Physical Requirements
- Physically assist with moving and racking equipment as needed.
- Able to climb ladders and work on elevated platforms safely.
- Able to safely lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Capable of performing office-related tasks which may include prolonged sitting or standing.
- Able to move from one place to another within an office environment.
- Proficient in using a computer for extended periods.
- Some positions may require occasional repetitive motion or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Work Environment
This role operates in a data center environment with varying temperatures and loud noises. The position requires extensive daily use of workstations or computers. This position may require a rotating schedule to support a 24/7 support plan, ensuring our clients receive uninterrupted service around the clock.
Special Requirements
- Must work on-site; no working from home is allowed.
- Must be comfortable working in a highly critical, fast-paced environment with changing requirements.
- Must have a current, valid state-issued driver's license.
- Must be flexible in schedule to support department needs as required, including coverage for in-fill projects, PTO, sick leave, and other absences.
- Must agreeably pass or complete any required client individual background checks or training.
- This position requires work to be done on-site at a data center office and may require use of a personal cell phone. A monthly stipend will be provided to cover costs incurred from using a personal device, if applicable.
