Position Overview

We're looking for an experienced Data Center Technician to help us build and operate our suite of cloud services at scale. In this role, you'll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of enterprise-level server infrastructure, network equipment, and data center systems. You'll work alongside talented professionals who are passionate about delivering best-in-cloud products and services to our clients.

What You'll Do

As a Data Center Technician at arenaflex, your responsibilities will span across multiple technical domains, ensuring the smooth operation of our server farm activities. Here's what you can expect in this role:


  • Hardware Installation and Configuration: Install and configure enterprise servers and cabling infrastructure, ensuring all components meet our rigorous standards for performance and reliability.

  • Hardware Break/Fix Operations: Perform Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) replacements and repairs, minimizing downtime and maintaining system availability.

  • Rack Installation and Setup: Execute complete rack installations, including placing racks in designated locations, performing comprehensive cabling, powering up systems, and handing off servers to internal provisioning teams.

  • Telecommunications Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve telco connectivity issues, ensuring seamless communication infrastructure throughout the facility.

  • Network Switch Maintenance: Troubleshoot and replace network switch hardware as needed, maintaining optimal network performance.

  • Tagging and Documentation: Operate within our tagging environment, which is utilized and managed by various internal cloud service owners and teams. Maintain accurate records of all activities.

  • SOP Development: Document all activities comprehensively and create or modify Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve operational efficiency.

  • Structured Cabling: Handle structured cabling, naming conventions, and troubleshooting of fiber, copper, and telecommunications links.

  • Power Infrastructure: Install, repair, and maintain system power supplies and cabling infrastructure.

  • Project Execution: Independently execute small projects and collaborate with management on planning and executing larger local projects.

  • Asset Management: Maintain asset inventory and update internal applications as required.

  • Emergency Response: Be available via phone and capable of handling on-site emergencies as they arise.

  • Training and Development: Participate in training programs that align with corporate objectives to bridge skill gaps and acquire new relevant technologies.

  • SLA Compliance: Operate within Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for all tickets assigned to your area.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need to bring a solid foundation of technical knowledge along with the ability to work effectively in our dynamic environment. Here are the essential requirements:


  • Technical Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of server, storage, and network equipment fundamentals is essential for this role.

  • Learning Agility: Strong interest in learning new data center concepts and staying current with emerging technologies.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members and document procedures.

  • Shift Availability: Must be able to work a 4 days per week, 10-hour shift schedule, which includes weekends and holidays. Our 24/7 server farm operations require around-the-clock coverage.

  • Experience Level: A minimum of 3+ years working in an IT environment is required. This experience should include hands-on work with enterprise-level systems.

  • Troubleshooting Expertise: Proven experience handling issues on servers, networking devices, and IT hardware. You should be comfortable diagnosing and resolving complex technical problems.

  • Inventory Management: Experience with inventory management processes, including ordering, receiving, and delivering server parts and components.

  • On-Call Availability: Experience accepting available-to-work shifts and the ability to respond to critical events as needed.

  • Issue Escalation: Experience raising issues to senior on-site staff and management as appropriate.

  • IT Equipment Concepts: Knowledge of IT equipment concepts including RAID, SAN, SCSI, Linux/Unix, and GRUB is required.

  • Additional Knowledge: Understanding of trunk systems is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

While not strictly required, the following qualifications will help you stand out from other candidates:


  • Education: A 2-year or 4-year degree in a related technical field, OR 3+ years of equivalent hands-on experience in data center operations.

  • Cabling Expertise: 1+ year of experience in structured cabling including copper and fiber optics, cable testing, cooling systems, and electrical systems concepts within data center environments.

Compensation and Benefits

We recognize that our team members are instrumental to our success, and we offer competitive compensation packages to reflect that. The hourly rate for this position ranges from $35 to $40 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
