About the Role

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Director of Data Analytics to join our Store Automation and Innovation team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a data-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and is passionate about transforming raw data into actionable business insights.

The Director of Data Analytics will be responsible for developing a comprehensive suite of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of our strategic initiatives. This role will define critical metrics and lead the development of robust data pipelines and dynamic dashboards to distribute these measurements across the organization. You will report progress towards our strategic objectives to executive leadership on a regular basis, ensuring complete transparency and data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.

This position will be located in Bentonville, Arkansas, and will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Store Innovation and Automation. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, providing flexibility while maintaining meaningful in-person collaboration with our talented teams.

What You'll Do

As the Director of Data Analytics at arenaflex, you will be at the forefront of our data transformation initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:


  • Data Source Identification and Management: You will be responsible for identifying and cataloging all relevant data sources, requiring deep knowledge of functional business domains and scenarios, categories of data and their storage locations, business data requirements, database technologies, and data quality standards. You will ensure that our data infrastructure is robust, reliable, and scalable.
  • Business Problem Analysis: Analyze complex business problems within your domain and question assumptions to help identify root causes. You will recognize and recommend approaches to resolving business challenges while establishing meaningful expectations based on established progress guidelines and key performance metrics.
  • Business Case Evaluation and Strategy Translation: Evaluate proposed business cases for projects and initiatives, translating business requirements into actionable strategies. You will align your team with overall business strategy while executing expectations with precision and forward-thinking vision.
  • Data Visualization and Storytelling: Identify and recommend the most suitable visualization tools based on context, and define application design based on client requirements. This includes building compelling narratives based on context, presenting to and influencing diverse audiences using appropriate data visualization techniques, and adapting communication styles to resonate with various stakeholders.
  • Strategic Direction and Business Process Leadership: Provide overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs. This encompasses developing, delivering, building support for, and implementing business processes, plans, and practices. You will analyze costs and estimates, integrating them into strategic business plans while determining and supporting resource requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Community Partnership: Develop and leverage both internal and external networks and partnerships. Lead strategic community outreach and involvement initiatives while supporting partners—all while respecting and adhering to the company's unwavering standards of integrity and ethical conduct.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and mentor a team of talented analysts, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. You will coach team members to reach their full potential while driving organizational success.

What You'll Bring

We are looking for a candidate who brings a powerful combination of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership capabilities. The ideal candidate will possess:


  • Advanced Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and big data tools (such as Hive). You should be comfortable working with large-scale datasets and have the ability to manipulate, analyze, and derive insights from complex data structures.
  • Visualization and Reporting Expertise: Demonstrated capability with dashboarding tools (such as Looker) and scheduling/workflow tools (such as Airflow). You should have a proven track record of creating intuitive, actionable dashboards that drive business decisions.
  • Executive Communication Skills: The ability to communicate the details of complex metrics to C-suite executives clearly and persuasively. You must be able to translate technical findings into business-friendly language that influences strategic decision-making.
  • Business Translation Abilities: Capacity to connect data details and articulate their impact on the business. You should be able to demonstrate how analytical insights translate into tangible business outcomes and value.
  • Metric Development Experience: Experience developing new metrics to track business impact. You should be comfortable creating measurement frameworks from scratch and iterating based on business needs.
  • Team Leadership Experience: Proven experience leading a team of analysts. You should have demonstrated success in managing, developing, and motivating analytical talent.
  • Dashboard and Report Development: Experience building dashboards and reports that aggregate data from multiple sources. You should be skilled at data integration and creating unified views of business performance.

Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required. Equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Advanced Statistical Background: A background and/or formal education in statistics, providing you with a strong foundation in quantitative analysis methodologies.
  • Machine Learning and Data Science Expertise: Experience with machine learning and data science techniques. You should be comfortable with predictive modeling, statistical analysis, and advanced analytics methodologies that can drive innovative solutions.
  • Advanced Degree: A Master's degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Data Science.
  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in retail, e-commerce, or supply chain analytics is highly desirable.
  • Cloud Platform Experience: Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile development practices and working in sprint-based environments.
