- *About the Role:**
As an Experienced Media Operator, you will work closely with colleagues and clients across ESPN, including production control room staff, remote production teams, and external vendors. You will be responsible for recording, editing, playback, transcoding, indexing, and filing of various media formats and server-based content, ensuring that all content meets ESPN's stringent quality standards for video and audio. You will also be expected to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, often under tight deadlines, with a wide range of content requirements.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Prepare and distribute server content used for recording and playback
- Ensure video and audio quality during live and recorded programming, set up standards for incoming feeds, and edit/clamp content for production and programming
- Demonstrate expertise in the use of all communication equipment and technology within assigned working areas, including but not limited to, standard and high-quality operations, content management, direct and non-linear editing systems, encoding systems, server-based accounts/playback devices, server networking, cassette player and content repeat tasks, broadcast switches, radios, organization content and media development, EVS tasks, and more
- Work in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and deadline-driven environment
- Demonstrate a fundamental understanding of editing strategies on non-linear systems
- Interpret complex data and communicate it to relevant personnel in a clear and concise manner
- Measure sound and video signals to ensure quality control of ESPN-supported guidelines on all activities using broad knowledge of broadcast techniques
- Research and effectively document any critical developments and/or goals
- Participate in training programs (physical, classroom, virtual, etc.) for self-professional development as well as regarding any applicable equipment and workflow changes within the role
- May participate in training others in functional areas and produce training documentation
- Understand Shut Subtitling systems and related workflow processes
- Collaborate with Innovation teams to improve existing applications
- Provide decisive reasoning to daily tasks
- Acquire and acquire advanced skills in various functional areas to best work with the coordination of tasks
- *Essential Capabilities:**
- At least 2 years' practical TV production experience at the major market or organization level
- Ability to work late shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Adaptability to adjust shifts/days off and stay at work longer than required to accommodate projects and departmental targets
- Ability to perform tasks under close deadlines, work independently, and perform on concurrent activities
- Ability to function as part of a team dynamic
- Excellent interpersonal skills are a must
- Amazing hierarchical, proficiency, and IT skills are required to design abilities
- Willingness and ability to adjust to a continually evolving environment
- Applicants should have a good computer foundation (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc...) and solid interpersonal skills
- *Secondary Education:**
- Secondary School Certificate or Same
- *Favored Capabilities:**
- Active foundation in a live production environment, temporary job, or comparable educational experience
- Knowledge of server-based recording/playback and non-linear editing systems like Quantel
- Understanding of arrangement changes, EVS, transcoding systems, and document formats
- Bilingual (written and spoken) - English/Spanish
- Four-year college education in Communications, Studio Production, News, or related field
