Key Responsibilities
As a Pharmacy Technician at arenaflex, you'll play a vital role in our pharmacy operations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Patient Interaction: Greet and assist customers with warmth and professionalism, providing exceptional service that makes every patient feel valued and cared for.
- Prescription Processing: Utilize our advanced pharmacy management systems to accurately enter patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and ensure all data is entered correctly.
- Medication Preparation: Retrieve, count, and pour pharmaceutical tablets and medications, verifying accuracy to ensure patient safety. Check for possible drug interactions and alert the pharmacist to any concerns.
- Quality Assurance: Report any prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to all company policies and procedures regarding pharmacy errors and quality improvement programs.
- Customer Relationship Building: Develop strong relationships with our most valuable customers, becoming their go-to resource for pharmacy needs and health-related questions (within your scope of practice).
- Financial Operations: Register all related income on assigned cash registers, handle cash transactions accurately, and maintain proper documentation of all sales.
- Insurance Claims Processing: Correctly submit and process third-party insurance claims for prescription services in a timely and efficient manner.
- Inventory Management: Support pharmacy department inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing prescription drug shipments. Maintain awareness of company asset protection techniques.
- Documentation: Document claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods related to prescription medications.
- Clinical Support: Assist pharmacists in administering medical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients, as required by state regulations and company policies.
- Healthcare Coordination: Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers through medical provider detailing and outreach.
- Facility Maintenance: Assist with indoor and outdoor maintenance by ensuring the pharmacy department is stocked with adequate supplies and maintained in a clean, neat, and orderly condition.
- Compliance: Comply with all company policies and procedures, including state and federal pharmacy regulations. Maintain respectful relationships with coworkers and adhere to the arenaflex Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
- Professional Development: Complete all required training, continuing education, and professional development activities as assigned by your manager.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Language Proficiency: Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico where Spanish proficiency may be applicable).
- Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program is preferred.
- Certifications: Must be willing to obtain Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification within the timeframe required by the apprenticeship program and/or state regulations.
- Legal Eligibility: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Background Check: Must pass background check and drug screening as required by state regulations and company policy.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will help you excel in this role:
- Six months or more of experience in a retail pharmacy or healthcare environment.
- Previous work experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting.
- Strong mathematical skills to accurately fill prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
- Proficient computer skills and familiarity with pharmacy management systems.
- Knowledge of store inventory control procedures.
- Current PTCB certification.
- Previous customer service experience in a retail or healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with insurance claims processing and third-party billing.
