Position Overview

As an Information Researcher – Real-World Evidence (RWE) at arenaflex, you will be responsible for generating actionable Real-World Evidence through advanced research methodologies and innovative approaches in the clinical trials space. You will serve as a fundamental member of our Scientific Issues team, working alongside cross-functional colleagues to deliver insights that inform internal and external decision-making through the use of cutting-edge data science and technology.

In this role, you will lead sophisticated data analysis initiatives to help address critical business questions and contribute to the development of evidence-based solutions for our pharmaceutical partners. This position reports to the Executive Director of Clinical Data Science and offers significant opportunities for professional growth and skill development in the rapidly evolving field of real-world evidence research.

Key Responsibilities


  • Data Mining and Preparation: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms. Analyze and interpret results, and help shape comprehensive analysis strategies that align with project objectives and scientific questions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. Potential projects include analysis of unmet medical needs, safety and efficacy of treatments in specific disease states, treatment patterns, healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
  • Data Management and Storage: Clean, transform, and store data into a coordinated data lake architecture for future analysis and broader team utilization. Ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility across the organization while maintaining compliance with relevant healthcare data regulations.
  • Statistical Analysis and Insights: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/Real-World Data (RWD) to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes. Apply advanced statistical methodologies to identify patterns, trends, and correlations that inform clinical and business decisions.
  • Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities by applying advanced analytics tools and techniques to address scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical organizations. Contribute to the continuous improvement of our analytical frameworks and methodologies.
  • Research Study Execution: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, from protocol development through analysis and reporting. Ensure studies are conducted with scientific rigor and adhere to established research standards.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and analyses. Implement quality control measures and validation procedures to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of all deliverables.
  • Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for both internal and external use. Communicate complex findings effectively to diverse audiences, including scientific teams, business stakeholders, and pharmaceutical clients.
  • Vendor Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors. Drive RWD quality assessments to inform project decisions and ensure the highest standards of data quality for research initiatives.

Essential Qualifications


  • Technical Proficiency: Minimum of 2 years of experience with programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL. Demonstrated ability to write efficient, reproducible code for data analysis and statistical modeling.
  • Statistical Expertise: Experience designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. Strong foundation in study design, bias control, and causal inference methodologies.
  • Statistical Methods Knowledge: Knowledge of common statistical testing methods including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis. Ability to select appropriate statistical approaches based on research questions and data characteristics.
  • Big Data Experience: Experience processing large datasets from diverse data sources. Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks and cloud-based data platforms is highly desirable.
  • Healthcare Data Handling: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to privacy regulations and security protocols. Understanding of HIPAA compliance requirements and data governance frameworks.
  • Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI and visualization tools. Ability to create compelling data visualizations that drive actionable insights.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Healthcare Data Expertise: Proficiency in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases. Understanding of the healthcare data landscape and experience working with diverse healthcare data sources.
  • Clinical Data Standards: Expertise in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies, including ICD-9/10 and Read Codes. Familiarity with HL7, FHIR, and other healthcare interoperability standards is a plus.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials, including ISO standards, MDD/MDR, and CFR requirements. Understanding of regulatory considerations for observational studies and post-marketing surveillance.
  • Alternative Data Sources: Experience with alternative data sources and innovative methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and/or digital health solutions. Interest in exploring novel data sources such as wearable devices, patient-generated health data, and social determinants of health.
  • Advanced Statistical Skills: Experience with trial design, Bayesian modeling, sequential analysis, and computational statistics. Knowledge of machine learning techniques and their application in healthcare research.
  • Continuous Learning: Understanding of statistics and machine learning techniques, with the ability to pursue self-learning of both technical and non-technical skills. Commitment to staying current with emerging methodologies and industry trends.
