Senior UI/UX Designer – Polish & Refine Chat-Based Cannabis Product Information Application

  • --

About arenaflex

At arenaflex, we're transforming the way cannabis retail professionals access product knowledge. Our innovative internal web application, "Product Professor," serves as an intelligent companion for budtenders, enabling them to quickly find accurate product information and provide personalized recommendations to customers. We're looking for a talented Senior UI/UX Designer to elevate our user interface across three critical screens, bringing clarity, warmth, and expert craftsmanship to every interaction.

The cannabis industry is rapidly evolving, and so are the tools that support it. arenaflex stands at the intersection of technology and wellness, creating solutions that empower retail teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences. Our Product Professor app is already helping budtenders across the country streamline their workflow—but we believe there's always room for refinement. That's where you come in.

What You'll Do

As our Senior UI/UX Designer, you'll be the creative force behind polishing our chat-based cannabis product information application. This is a UI/UX-focused role with no backend, LLM, or API development required. You'll work exclusively on three core screens to transform good into exceptional.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Heuristic Audits & Provide Direction: Analyze existing screens for hierarchy, spacing, contrast, and usability issues. Identify quick wins and establish prioritized recommendations for improvement.

  • Develop Visual Language: Refine type scale, color palettes (light and dark modes), spacing systems, elevation, and state styles to create a modern, calm, and expert aesthetic that resonates with cannabis industry professionals.

  • Polish Three Critical Screens:

    • Landing/Query Screen: Enhance input prominence, craft helpful helper text, design clear voice affordances, establish CTA hierarchy, optimize brand lockup presentation, and ensure responsive behavior across devices.

    • Loading State: Design thoughtful progress treatments using skeletons or spinners, and implement clear latency messaging to keep users informed during processing.

    • Chat Interface: Create intuitive message layouts with readable line lengths, timestamps, actionable elements (copy, ask similar), and comprehensive empty/error/no-result states.

  • Write Microcopy: Develop clear, compliant, and human-toned system messages that avoid medical claims while maintaining warmth and professionalism.

  • Design Interactions & Motion: Create tasteful transitions for send/receive actions, loading states, and toast notifications. Ensure all motion respects accessibility settings, including reduced-motion preferences.

  • Build Design System Components: In Figma, create and document buttons, inputs, cards, chips, tabs, toasts, and icons with variants, usage notes, and tokenization for Tailwind/CSS variables.

  • Ensure Accessibility Compliance: Meet AA contrast requirements, design clear focus states, implement keyboard navigation, and add appropriate screen-reader labels throughout the application.

Your Deliverables

Throughout this engagement, you'll produce the following tangible assets that will guide our development team:

  • A concise UI/UX audit with prioritized recommendations for improvement

  • High-fidelity mockups and a clickable Figma prototype covering all three screens in both light and dark modes

  • A comprehensive component library including states, variants, and a token sheet covering color, type, spacing, radii, shadows, and motion

  • Motion specifications with Figma animations or GIF/Lottie references

  • A microcopy guide covering system messages, loading states, errors, and necessary disclaimers

  • Development handoff materials including organized Figma files, annotations, redlines, and a brief Loom walkthrough

What We're Providing

To set you up for success, arenaflex will provide:

  • Current screens and flows for the landing, loading, and chat interfaces

  • Complete product content for the application

  • Brand constraints including our established tone (calm, knowledgeable, trustworthy), logo assets, and initial color palette

  • Dedicated design and engineering points of contact for rapid feedback cycles

  • Frontend context including Next.js and Tailwind setup via bolt.new to ensure token parity between Figma and development

What You Must Bring

We're seeking a designer who demonstrates both technical proficiency and creative excellence. The following qualifications are essential:

  • Portfolio of Shipped Web Apps: Demonstrated experience shipping web applications—ideally chat or knowledge tools—that showcase your polish and systems-thinking approach.

  • Expert Figma Skills: Proficiency with autolayout, variants, component properties, and prototyping capabilities.

  • Strong Interaction & Motion Sensibility: An eye for subtle, purposeful animations that enhance rather than distract from the user experience.

  • Accessibility Fundamentals: Solid understanding of WCAG guidelines and practical implementation of accessible design patterns.

  • Tailwind/Design Token Comfort: Experience designing within tokenized workflows that translate seamlessly to CSS/Tailwind implementations.

What Would Make You Stand Out

While not required, these additional experiences would strengthen your application:

  • Experience designing for regulated industries or retail environments, particularly familiarity with cannabis retail workflows

  • Light front-end development literacy to bridge design and implementation

  • Skills in iconography or illustration that could enhance the application's visual identity

  • Experience with Lottie or After Effects for sophisticated motion design

  • A chat experience that feels confident, helpful, and friendly with clear actions and approachable system states

  • Cohesive visual and interaction language supporting both light and dark modes

  • A maintainable component library that ensures consistency as the product grows

  • Smooth development handoff with minimal ambiguity between design and implementation
