The Role: Data Scientist - Real World Evidence (RWE)


We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Data Scientist to join our Clinical Data Science team in a part-time capacity. This is a remote position offering competitive compensation at $27/hour, providing flexibility while allowing you to contribute to groundbreaking work in the healthcare analytics space. In this role, you will be an integral part of our Real-World Evidence team, responsible for generating robust evidence through advanced analytics and innovative methodologies in the clinical trials space. You will play a critical role in influencing both internal and external decision-making through the application of creative data science and technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities



  • Data Extraction and Preparation: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms. Analyze and interpret results while contributing to the development of comprehensive analysis strategies that align with project objectives.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources that support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. This includes analysis of unmet medical needs, safety and efficacy profiles in specific disease states, treatment patterns, healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.

  • Data Management and Organization: Clean, transform, and store data into a structured data lake architecture for future analysis and broader team utilization. Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accessibility across the organization.

  • Statistical Analysis and Insights Discovery: Perform data mining and statistical analysis on RWE/Real-World Data (RWD) to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes. Apply advanced statistical techniques to uncover patterns, trends, and correlations that inform clinical and business decisions.

  • Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities by applying advanced analytics and tools to address scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical organizations. Continuously enhance our methodological approaches and technological infrastructure.

  • Research Study Execution: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity throughout the research lifecycle.

  • Quality Assurance and Reporting: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations. Develop dashboards, analyses, and reports for both internal and external stakeholder consumption.

  • Vendor Assessment and Quality Control: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors, driving RWD quality assessments to inform investment decisions and partnership opportunities.

Essential Qualifications



  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.

  • Technical Proficiency: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL. Demonstrated ability to write efficient, well-documented code for data analysis and manipulation.

  • Statistical Expertise: Experience designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. Strong foundation in statistical testing methodologies including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis.

  • Data Handling Experience: Proven experience processing large-scale data from diverse data sources, with the ability to manage data quality, integration, and transformation challenges effectively.

  • Healthcare Data Compliance: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to privacy regulations and data security protocols.

  • Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI and visualization tools for dashboard development and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications



  • Healthcare Data Expertise: Proficiency in EMR/Health IT systems, disease libraries, and insurance claims databases. Familiarity with the healthcare data landscape and understanding of various data sources used in clinical research.

  • Clinical Data Standards: Expertise in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies, including ICD-9/10 and ReadCode.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials, including ISO standards, MDD/MDR, and CFR requirements.

  • Alternative Data Sources: Experience with alternative data sources and innovative methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and digital health solutions.

  • Advanced Statistical Skills: Experience with trial design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data analysis, and computational statistics. Understanding of advanced machine learning techniques and the ability to continuously self-learn technical and non-technical skills.

  • Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, including drug development processes, clinical trial methodologies, and regulatory requirements for evidence generation.
