Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Data Engineer to join our growing Data Engineering division. In this role, you will be responsible for driving data-driven insights and innovation to support the data needs for business and operational initiatives with a digital-first focus. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define and execute data acquisition, transformation, processing, and delivery strategies that create sustainable revenue growth and deliver business value.

Key Responsibilities
- Data Pipeline Architecture: Design, develop, and implement streaming and near real-time data pipelines that feed systems serving as the operational backbone of our business, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
- Data Transformation: Collaborate with various teams to define and execute data acquisition, transformation, processing, and make data meaningful for operational and analytical initiatives that drive sustainable revenue and offer growth opportunities.
- Quality Assurance: Implement unit tests and validate expected results to ensure accuracy and integrity of data and applications through thorough analysis, coding, clear documentation, and issue resolution.
- Hadoop Ecosystem: Drive the adoption of data processing and analysis within the Hadoop environment and mentor cross-train other team members on best practices and emerging technologies.
- Analytical Problem-Solving: Leverage key and analytical skills to understand and address client and business-driven questions, translating complex data into actionable insights.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead and guide cross-functional initiatives involving colleagues across all areas of the enterprise, vendors, external organizations, and partners to achieve strategic objectives.
- Data Insights Development: Leverage data from multiple sources to develop data stores and insights that provide a comprehensive understanding of the business and its evolving needs.
- Automation & Innovation: Develop and implement innovative solutions leading to automation of manual processes, improving efficiency and reducing operational overhead.
- Project Management: Utilize Agile methodologies to manage projects effectively, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
- Mentorship: Guide and train junior engineers, sharing knowledge and fostering professional development within the team.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related STEM field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3+ years of IT experience in software development with a focus on data engineering or related disciplines.
- Minimum 2+ years of development experience using programming languages such as Java, Python, or Scala.
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience with Big Data technologies including PySpark, Hadoop, Hive, HBASE, Kafka, and Nifi.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience with relational database systems such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, or Teradata.
- Demonstrated ability to work with large-scale data processing and transformation pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a natural curiosity and desire to tackle complex challenges using data and insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven track record of reliable, consistent attendance and commitment to team success.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Computer Science or related STEM field.
- Experience with cloud-based platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- AWS Certified Developer or AWS Certified Engineer credentials.
- Strong background in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) using Agile methodologies.
- Data engineering experience within the transportation, airline, or travel industry.
- Advanced knowledge of Big Data architectures and real-time streaming frameworks.
- Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and data warehouse design.
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and ML engineering pipelines.
