Position Overview
In this role, you will serve as a fundamental part of our Scientific Solutions group, leading sophisticated data analyses to address critical business questions. You will be responsible for mining, cleaning, and transforming raw datasets into standardized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms. Your expertise will help shape analysis strategies and deliver meaningful insights that inform clinical development programs.
This position reports to the Chief of Clinical Data Science and offers the flexibility of remote work arrangements, making it ideal for professionals seeking a balanced approach to their career and personal life.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Mining and Preparation: Extract and normalize raw datasets from various internal and external data sources to create analysis-ready patient cohorts suitable for advanced analytics
- Statistical Analysis: Conduct rigorous statistical analyses using R, Python, or SQL to interpret results and shape comprehensive analysis strategies
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with members of the Clinical Trials team to deliver valuable insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources supporting biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests
- Research Projects: Contribute to projects analyzing unmet medical needs, safety and efficacy profiles in specific disease states, treatment patterns, healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling
- Data Lake Management: Clean, transform, and store data into organized data repositories for future analysis and broader team utilization
- Advanced Analytics: Perform data mining and statistical analysis on RWE/Real World Data (RWD) to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes
- Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities by applying advanced analytical tools to resolve scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical clients
- Study Design: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and analyses
- Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for both internal and external stakeholder use
- Vendor Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors, driving RWD quality assessments to inform project decisions
Essential Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL
- Statistical Expertise: Experience designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical investigations in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data
- Statistical Methods Knowledge: Familiarity with common statistical testing methodologies including generalized linear models, classification and regression, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis
- Big Data Experience: Proven experience processing large datasets from multiple data sources
- Data Privacy Competency: Experience handling protected patient health information with appropriate confidentiality and security measures
- Business Intelligence Tools: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI visualization tools
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Public Health, Epidemiology, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare Data Expertise: Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR)/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases
- Clinical Data Standards: Aptitude in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD-9/10/ReadCode)
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR)
- Alternative Data Sources: Experience working with alternative data sources and innovative methods for clinical data collection, particularly those enabled by technology platforms and solutions
- Advanced Study Design: Experience with clinical trial design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data analysis, and computational statistics
- Continuous Learning: Strong understanding of statistical and machine learning techniques with the ability to independently pursue self-learning of both technical and non-technical skills
