The Role: Business Data Scientist – Impact Measurement

What You'll Do

As a Business Data Scientist at arenaflex, your primary responsibility will be to translate complex business questions into data-driven research projects. You will work closely with stakeholders across the organization to understand their needs, design appropriate analytical approaches, and deliver insights that inform strategic decisions. Your work will involve:

• Research Design and Execution: Design and lead rigorous research studies aimed at answering critical business questions. This includes formulating hypotheses, selecting appropriate statistical methods, and ensuring analytical rigor throughout the research process.


• Data Analysis and Modeling: Extract and analyze data from large datasets using SQL and statistical programming languages such as R, SAS, Stata, or MATLAB. Apply advanced statistical techniques to identify patterns, measure impact, and generate insights.


• Insight Communication: Present and communicate actionable insights, recommendations, and research findings to executives, business leaders, and cross-functional partners. Translate technical findings into clear, compelling narratives that drive decision-making.


• Peer Review and Collaboration: Serve as a peer reviewer for causal research designed by other teams, ensuring methodological soundness and analytical quality across the organization.


• Continuous Learning: Stay current with advances in causal inference methodology, statistical modeling, and data science best practices. Develop and implement new techniques as appropriate to address evolving business needs.


• Cross-Functional Partnership: Work collaboratively with product managers, engineers, marketing teams, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between analytical insights and business objectives.

Who You Are

We are looking for candidates who combine strong technical abilities with business acumen and exceptional communication skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in ambiguous environments, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

Required Qualifications

• Educational Background: Master's degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Economics, or a related quantitative field.


• Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience with articulating business and product questions and pulling data from datasets using SQL. Proficiency with at least one statistical tool such as R, SAS, Stata, or MATLAB.


• Analytical Experience: Internship or work experience in data analysis, with a proven track record of applying statistical methods to real-world business problems.

Communication Skills: Excellent ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing.

• Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical approaches.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Statistical Methods: Experience with Bayesian hierarchical models, Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART), Bayesian Causal Forest (BCF), Gaussian Processes, and Synthetic Control techniques.


• Experimental Design: Experience designing and analyzing randomized controlled trials (A/B tests) and understanding the nuances of experimental methodology.


• Causal Inference: Experience designing and conducting causal research using observational data, including difference-in-differences, regression discontinuity, and other quasi-experimental methods.


• Statistical Analysis: Strong foundation in statistical data analysis including linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling techniques.


• Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with digital media, content platforms, or technology ecosystems is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $124,000 - $182,000 annually, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.
