Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our Graph and Social Connections team. In this role, you will play a vital part in shaping meaningful communities where people can connect with each other. You'll leverage your technical expertise and analytical capabilities to work with one of the richest datasets in the world, helping define the experiences we build for billions of people and hundreds of millions of businesses worldwide.

This position offers the chance to transform how people connect and communicate through data-driven insights. You'll collaborate with a diverse set of cross-functional partners across Product, Engineering, Research, Data Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Finance to identify and solve product development's biggest challenges. Key Responsibilities

As a Data Scientist focusing on Graph and Social Connections, you will be responsible for:


  • Data Analysis and Modeling: Work with large and complex datasets to solve a wide range of challenging problems using advanced analytical and statistical techniques. You'll develop models that help understand user behavior, predict trends, and identify opportunities for product improvement.
  • Quantitative Analysis: Apply technical knowledge with quantitative analysis, experimentation, data mining, and the presentation of data to develop strategies for products that serve billions of people and hundreds of millions of organizations. Your work will help inform product decisions across the organization.
  • Metrics Development and Tracking: Identify and measure the success of product efforts through objective setting, forecasting, and tracking of key product metrics to understand trends. You'll establish KPIs that align with business goals and provide actionable insights.
  • Opportunity Identification: Define, understand, and explore possibilities and levers to improve the product, driving roadmaps through your insights and recommendations. You'll be expected to proactively identify areas for improvement and propose data-driven solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to inform, influence, support, and execute product strategy and funding decisions. You'll serve as a trusted strategic partner, building credibility through structure and clarity.
  • Product Leadership: Use data to shape product development, quantify new opportunities, identify upcoming challenges, and ensure the products we build deliver value to people, businesses, and the platform. You'll help partner teams prioritize what to build, set goals, and understand their product's ecosystem.
  • Analytics and Insights: Guide teams using data and insights, focusing on developing hypotheses and employing a diverse toolkit of rigorous analytical approaches, unique methodologies, frameworks, and technical processes to test them.
  • Communication and Influence: Present data in compelling narratives that tell data-driven stories. You'll persuade and influence your partners using clear insights and recommendations, becoming a trusted advisor across the organization.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:


  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. We're looking for candidates with strong quantitative foundations who can apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems.
  • Professional Experience: 3+ years of experience in Product Data Science, with extensive experience in experimentation. You should have a proven track record of applying data science methodologies to product development and have a deep understanding of experimental design and analysis.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with data querying languages (such as SQL), scripting languages (such as Python), and/or statistical/mathematical software (such as R). You should be comfortable working with large datasets and have the ability to write efficient, optimized queries.
  • Analytical Expertise: Experience with predictive modeling, machine learning, and experimentation/causal inference methods. You should understand how to design experiments, analyze results, and draw meaningful conclusions from data.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to approach complex challenges systematically, breaking them down into manageable components and developing innovative solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. You should be comfortable presenting to senior leadership and influencing decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications would be beneficial:


  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Economics. Advanced degrees demonstrate deeper expertise in quantitative methodologies and research capabilities.
  • Experience working with social graph data or network analysis. Understanding of graph theory and its applications in social platforms is highly valued.
  • Experience with big data technologies and distributed computing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with product analytics tools and platforms.
  • Knowledge of user experience research methodologies and their integration with quantitative analysis.
