Role Overview
As an arenaflex Health Assistant, you will serve as the vital connection point between our members and the healthcare system they rely on. Reporting to a Steward (our team lead), you will be the main resource for members with all their healthcare needs and benefits-related questions. This role is at the heart of what we do at arenaflex – providing personalized, empathetic support that helps members get the right care at the right time.
No problem is too big or too small for our Health Assistants. Whether a member needs help understanding their benefits, finding the right doctor, or navigating a complex medical decision, you will be there to guide them with expertise, patience, and genuine care. This position offers the opportunity to develop deep relationships with members while leveraging your skills in customer service, healthcare knowledge, and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
Delivering Member Interventions and Support
- Navigate Complex Healthcare Systems: Support members in navigating the often confusing and overwhelming healthcare system through phone calls, digital messaging, and other communication channels. Be their trusted guide through every step of their healthcare journey.
- Empower Informed Decisions: Influence members' healthcare decisions and behaviors by making them smarter, more informed consumers of healthcare services. Provide clear, accessible explanations that help members understand their options.
- Benefits Translation: Act as a translator of benefit packages and care plans, breaking down complex insurance terminology into plain language that members can understand and act upon with confidence.
- Provider Finding Assistance: Help members find doctors and healthcare providers that best suit their needs, preferences, and circumstances. Ensure they have access to the right care at the right time.
- Barrier Identification: Proactively uncover barriers that prevent members from getting the care they need, whether they are financial, logistical, or informational. Develop creative solutions to overcome these obstacles.
- Clinical Resource Connection: Identify when members would benefit from clinical resources and facilitate easy connections with the appropriate clinical support, including Clinicians, Health Plan Disease Management, and Health Plan Case Management teams.
- Technology Utilization: Leverage the technology and internal resources available to you as an arenaflex Health Assistant to understand each member's unique path, identify required actions, and determine the next best steps in their care journey.
Driving Better Client Outcomes
- Financial Outcomes: Assist with improving financial outcomes for members and clients by helping members avoid inappropriate healthcare usage and process errors that can lead to unnecessary costs.
- Appropriate Care Utilization: Help members see the right providers at the right time, ensuring they receive appropriate care that addresses their specific health needs without unnecessary delays or redundant services.
- Benefits Optimization: Assist members in optimizing their benefit packages and third-party vendors to maximize the value they receive from their healthcare coverage.
- Health Outcome Improvement: Support improved medical and behavioral health outcomes by helping clients understand and fully utilize their preventive services and wellness programs.
- Reduction of Avoidable Care: Help clients reduce and eliminate avoidable hospital admissions, emergency room usage, and hospital readmissions through proactive engagement and education.
- Quality of Life Enhancement: Work collaboratively with members to improve their overall quality of life by addressing health concerns proactively and connecting them with appropriate resources and support systems.
Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a service-based environment, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred. Alternatively, 5 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Relevant Background: Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly valued: insurance settings, telephonic customer service, medical office environments, Health Plan operations, social services, behavioral health, counseling, healthcare coordination, pharmacy technology, benefits specialist roles, health coaching, case management, or exercise and health education.
- Adaptability: Must be highly agile and comfortable working in a fast-paced, innovative, technology-driven environment. You should thrive on change and be eager to learn new systems and processes.
- Healthcare Knowledge: Knowledge of consumer health plans and healthcare terminology is essential. You should have a solid understanding of how patients use and access healthcare services.
- Performance Orientation: Ability to thrive in a performance-based environment where metrics and outcomes matter. You should be motivated by achieving results and continuous improvement.
- Accountability: Demonstrate a high level of personal accountability for your work and outcomes. You take ownership of your responsibilities and see tasks through to completion.

Technical and Logistical Requirements
- Internet Connection: arenaflex requires a broadband internet connection with a minimum upload speed of 1 Mbps and download speed of 1 Mbps. A wired connection from laptop to router is required (WiFi connections are not permitted for security and reliability reasons).
- Equipment: IT equipment, including laptops and necessary hardware, will be provided directly by arenaflex to ensure you have the tools you need to succeed in this role.
- Availability: This position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule, with hours that can fall between 8:00 AM and 11:15 PM EST. Flexibility within this window is required to support our members' diverse scheduling needs.
