Focus Areas Within Our Data Infrastructure Teams:

As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, you will have the opportunity to work on one of our specialized data infrastructure teams. Here's a glimpse into the areas where your expertise can make a tremendous impact:

Database Access Platform

The Database Access Platform team builds and operates a flexible query gateway that provides data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies while enabling arenaflex microservices to efficiently store, consume, and manage their data. This team holds significant responsibility in enabling arenaflex microservices to meet their constantly growing and evolving data needs.

If you join this team, you will be passionate about distributed data systems technology. We are active in the open-source community and believe in owning what we build. As a small team responsible for business-critical systems, we are committed to a culture of feedback and engineering excellence.

Data Platform Systems

The Data Platform Systems team serves as a platform for our internal data platforms. Our shared system and tooling enable arenaflex to rapidly advance in providing cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom platforms for each new system. To achieve this, we create high-impact system, control, and orchestration systems customized for running our data systems at scale.

Many of our tools and systems are written in Python, making this an excellent team to consider if you enjoy working with diverse technologies and languages. You'll have the opportunity to work on complex problems that directly impact how our organization consumes and analyzes data.

Big Data Processing

This team is responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex. The Big Data Processing team is essential to batch data processing in our Data Stage. It supports Flash, ETL data into the petabyte-scale data warehouse, and provides access to that data using Flash and Voila/TrinoDB. It also delivers sub-second latency for specific classes of queries using Druid.

We are looking for exceptional talent with experience in Flash, Presto/Trino, Druid, Iceberg, and distributed database systems in general. Roles in this team involve handling fascinating and challenging issues related to working with data at scale, building features and performance improvements, and working closely with open-source communities to shape initiatives and make meaningful contributions.

Big Data Coordination

This team offers the platform for scheduling, coordinating, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve manner. These platforms include critical services that run all ETL and machine learning jobs on Big Data Systems at arenaflex. These fully distributed systems are constantly evolving for arenaflex scale with cutting-edge technology.

We are moving toward event-driven and intelligent deployment that requires minimal user input or intervention. This is an exciting space for engineers who enjoy solving complex orchestration challenges at massive scale.

About You – What We're Looking For:

We're seeking candidates who bring a unique blend of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and collaborative spirit. Here's what we ideally expect from our new team members:

• Experience: You have 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications. You've worked on systems that handle significant traffic and data volumes.


• API Development: You are proficient in the design and development of RESTful web services. You understand REST principles and best practices for building scalable APIs.


• Distributed Systems: Experienced in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems. You understand the complexities of distributed computing and can navigate challenges like consistency, partitioning, and fault tolerance.


• Programming: You are proficient in Java or other object-oriented programming languages. You write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.


• Concurrency: Multi-threading is a challenge that you are comfortable tackling. You understand how to write thread-safe code and handle concurrent operations effectively.


• Education: You have a BS in Computer Science or a related field. While we value formal education, we also recognize that equivalent practical experience can be just as valuable.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, the following qualifications would make you an even stronger candidate:

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure.
• Familiarity with big data technologies like Apache Spark, Apache Flink, or similar frameworks.
• Knowledge of data streaming technologies like Apache Kafka or similar event streaming platforms.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration systems like Kubernetes.
• Understanding of database technologies, both relational and NoSQL.
• Experience with open-source contributions or maintaining open-source projects.
