Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated Real World Evidence Data Scientist to join our Clinical Data Science division. In this role, you will conduct sophisticated data analysis to help address critical business questions, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources. The ideal candidate will be passionate about healthcare data, experienced in statistical analysis, and committed to producing high-quality, reproducible research that meets the highest scientific standards.

Key Responsibilities


  • Data Mining and Analysis: Mine raw datasets to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts from in-house data resources or licensed platforms. Analyze and interpret results while contributing to the development of overall analysis strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with various members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial teams to deliver actionable insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources. Support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests, including analysis of unmet needs, safety and efficacy in specific disease states, treatment patterns, healthcare economic burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
  • Data Management: Clean, transform, and store data into an integrated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization. Ensure data integrity and accessibility across the organization.
  • Statistical Analysis: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/RWD and discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes. Apply advanced statistical techniques to extract meaningful patterns and trends.
  • Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities. Apply advanced analysis and tools to address scientific inquiries from biopharmaceutical organizations.
  • Research Collaboration: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies, ensuring methodological rigor and scientific validity.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, thorough, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations. Maintain rigorous standards throughout the research process.
  • Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for both internal and external use, effectively communicating complex findings to diverse stakeholders.
  • Vendor Assessment: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors. Drive RWD quality assessments to inform project decisions and ensure data reliability.

Essential Qualifications


  • Statistical Expertise: Experience designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. Strong foundation in common statistical testing techniques including generalized linear models, clustering and classification, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis.
  • Data Handling Experience: Proven experience processing large data from diverse data sources. Comfortable working with complex, multi-dimensional datasets and managing data at scale.
  • Protected Health Information: Experience handling protected patient health information with strict adherence to privacy and security protocols. Understanding of HIPAA regulations and data protection best practices.
  • Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other BI insight tools. Strong ability to create compelling visualizations and dashboards that drive actionable insights.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced Degree: PhD or Master's degree in statistics/biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • Healthcare Data Experience: Expertise in EMR/Health IT, disease registries, and insurance claims databases. Familiarity with the healthcare data landscape and understanding of how different data sources can be leveraged for research.
  • Clinical Data Standards: Proficiency in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD9/10/ReadCode).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO, MDD/MDR, CFR).
  • Innovative Data Collection: Experience working on alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, especially those enabled by technology platforms and/or solutions.
  • Advanced Statistical Skills: Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data, and computational statistics.
  • Continuous Learning: Understanding of statistics and machine learning methods, with the ability to continuously self-learn technical and non-technical skills in this rapidly evolving field.
