Position Overview: IT Application Analyst – Data Engineering
In Corporate Infrastructure Services (CIS), we're searching for skilled and advanced Data Specialists to lead the way in designing, implementing, and delivering critical data solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Lead Technical Projects: Supervise the engineering work of various specialists on data projects, providing technical guidance and ensuring project milestones are met on time and within specifications.
- Design Data Solutions: Design, develop, and deliver scalable and efficient data solutions that meet the evolving needs of the business while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.
- Ensure Quality and Reliability: Guarantee the quality, reliability, and security of data solutions through rigorous testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement practices.
- Build Data Pipelines: Construct and deploy high-quality data architecture and pipelines to support business reporting requirements and enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.
- Monitor Performance: Monitor data pipelines and proactively identify and resolve any performance or reliability issues before they impact operations.
- Data Quality Management: Ensure data quality and reliability by implementing data validation, error handling, and data cleansing strategies.
- Data Integration: Collaborate with different teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources including but not limited to CSV, Excel, Email attachments, SmartSheet, and more.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside business clients, technical teams, and operations groups to address business requirements and deliver against high operational standards of system availability and reliability.
- System Enhancement: Build and enhance software to extend system, application, or tool functionality to improve business processes and meet end-user needs while working within the overall system architecture.
- Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve operational issues, perform detailed root cause analysis, and propose recommendations for improvements.
- Documentation: Document data engineering processes, workflows, and best practices to ensure data sharing and maintain a robust knowledge base.
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need to bring a combination of education, experience, and technical expertise:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Project Leadership: Experience providing oversight for data engineering projects and leading technical teams.
- Database Expertise: Proven experience with building, developing, maintaining, and enhancing scalable database systems including data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines alongside reporting solutions.
- AWS Cloud Experience: Extensive AWS experience with hands-on work in AWS Glue, AuroraDB (MySQL) - RDS, Amazon Workmail, Amazon SES, S3, Lambda, Redshift, SQS, IAM (User, Group, Roles and Permissions), VPC, and Infrastructure configuration and related components.
- Data Structures: Experience working with modern data structures and Lambda-type models.
- SQL Proficiency: Strong capability in writing and optimizing SQL queries.
- Open Source Technologies: Knowledge and experience with Open Source Data Technologies including Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Pig, Spark, and similar frameworks.
- Programming Experience: Two or more years of development experience in Python, Ruby, Scala, or other platform-related big data technology.
- Development Best Practices: Knowledge of efficient programming practices and best practices for the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Reporting Tools: Experience building Reporting systems like QuickSight, PowerBI, or other visualization platforms.
- Data Warehousing: Knowledge and experience building data warehouse reporting systems for Business Analysis across various technologies.
- UI Development: Experience with responsive design and UI development for data entry systems (writeback reporting systems).
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will help you stand out:
- Experience with SmartSheet, Asana, HoneyCode, or PowerApps.
- JavaScript and/or React JS knowledge and hands-on experience.
- Industry experience as a Data Engineer or related specialty (e.g., Programmer, Business Intelligence Specialist, Data Scientist) with a history of controlling, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.
- Experience building data products progressively and integrating and managing datasets from diverse sources.
- Query execution tuning abilities using Unix profiling tools and SQL.
- Experience leading large-scale data warehousing and analysis projects, including using AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, EC2, Data Pipeline, and other big data technologies.
- Experience with non-relational databases/data stores including object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, and column-family databases.
