We're looking for a talented Data Engineer to join our Data Ventures team—a group of passionate technologists dedicated to transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive business decisions. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data pipelines that power our analytics capabilities. You'll work alongside brilliant data scientists, analysts, and engineers to solve challenging problems that have a direct impact on how we serve our customers.

What You'll Do

As a Data Engineer at arenaflex, you'll play a critical role in our data infrastructure. Your responsibilities will span across multiple areas of data engineering, from raw data ingestion to building robust pipelines that deliver high-quality data to our analytics teams. Here's what you can expect to do in this role:

Data Transformation and Integration

Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from identified databases and external sources

Design and develop scalable data pipelines that process massive volumes of data efficiently

Transform raw data into structured formats that are relevant to specific business problems

Stay current with emerging analysis trends and incorporate best practices into your work

Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure data integrity

Data Source Identification

Understand business requirements and service level agreements to determine data needs

Identify the most appropriate data sources that fit the intended purpose

Perform initial data quality assessments on extracted data

Evaluate data provenance and lineage to ensure traceability

Collaborate with data architects to define optimal data access patterns

Data Modeling

Analyze complex data elements, systems, data flows, relationships, and dependencies

Contribute to conceptual, physical, and logical data models

Develop Logical Data Models and Physical Data Models including data warehouse and data lake designs

Define database tables, primary and foreign keys, and stored procedures

Evaluate existing data models and physical databases for variances and inconsistencies

Design efficient data workflows that support real-time and batch processing

Investigate data integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions

Code Development and Testing

Write code to develop required solutions and application features using appropriate programming languages

Create test cases to review and validate proposed solution designs

Develop proofs of concept to validate technical approaches

Test code using appropriate testing methodologies including unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing

Deploy software to production servers and monitor for issues

Maintain code documentation and contribute to operational playbooks

Provide timely development updates to stakeholders

Applied Business Acumen

Provide recommendations to business partners to address complex business challenges

Develop business cases for projects with projected return on investment or cost savings

Translate business requirements into tasks, activities, and deliverables

Adapt to evolving business processes and priorities

Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation

Suggest new approaches and methodologies to enhance team effectiveness

Data Governance

Establish, adjust, and report on data governance activities and recommendations

Implement data governance practices in collaboration with business partners

Interpret organizational and regulatory policies on data

Educate others on data governance processes, practices, and guidelines

Recommend updates or contributions to data governance policies

Leadership and Mentorship

Demonstrate exceptional expertise and apply this to the development and improvement of operational plans

Provide expert advice and guidance to other team members

Support and adjust efforts to meet client and business needs

Build commitment for perspectives and reasoning

Create training documentation and train end-users on data modeling

Supervise the tasks of less experienced programmers

Specify system troubleshooting support procedures

What You'll Bring

We're looking for candidates who have a passion for data engineering and the drive to work on challenging problems at scale. To succeed in this role, you'll need the following qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Technical Expertise: Proficiency with Hadoop, Spark, Cloud platforms, Python/PySpark, and Java

Programming Experience: A proven track record coding with at least one programming language such as Scala or Python

Cloud Platform Knowledge: Experience with at least one cloud computing platform such as GCP (Google Cloud Platform) or Microsoft Azure

Data Modeling Skills: Strong expertise in data modeling and data migration protocols

Industry Experience: Experience with GCP, data warehousing, and business intelligence tools is preferred

Integration Tools: Experience with integration tools such as Automic or Wind River

Scalable Solutions: Experience building highly scalable Big Data solutions and ETL ecosystems

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Databricks is an added advantage

Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases like Cosmos DB along with RDBMS like MySQL or PostgreSQL

Hands-on working experience with messaging platforms like Kafka

Ability to increase team efficiency by improving Software Development Cycles, Requirement Intake, and Effort Estimation

Demonstrated innovative, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

Educational Requirements

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and 2 years of experience in programming or a related field

Option 2: 4 years of experience in programming or a related field

Option 3: Master's degree in Computer Science

Preferred Background

Data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analysis experience

Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field

Additional years of experience in programming or related fields

Our Data Ventures team creates reusable technologies that help with customer acquisition, onboarding, and empowering sellers, while ensuring a seamless experience for both partners. We enhance capabilities and variety in accordance with arenaflex's Everyday Low Price philosophy. We deliver affordability, but we also provide customized experiences for customers across all channels—in-store, mobile application, and websites.

Our team is responsible for providing support to US Marketplace sellers. We focus on delivering fast solutions for the cases and tickets submitted by sellers. We connect with multiple teams across the organization to provide exceptional seller experiences.
