Position Overview: Big Data Engineer

We're currently seeking an experienced and motivated Big Data Engineer to join our growing technology team. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our enterprise-grade data infrastructure that powers critical business insights and customer experiences. What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities

As a Big Data Engineer at arenaflex, your contributions will directly impact our ability to deliver innovative financial products and services to customers worldwide. Here's what you can expect in this role:

Software Development & Engineering

• Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and processing systems using Hadoop, Spark (including Core, SQL, and PySpark), and Hive technologies


• Write high-quality, scalable code and API specifications for data processing applications


• Participate actively in code reviews and automated testing practices to ensure code quality and reliability


• Troubleshoot complex data processing components and identify code deficiencies for timely remediation


• Enable the deployment, support, and monitoring of data applications across test, integration, and production environments


• Automate deployment processes in test and production environments to improve efficiency


• Scale applications automatically based on demand projections and business requirements


• Develop and test software components, including ongoing refactoring of code to drive continuous improvement in code structure and quality

Technical Leadership

• Lead and mentor small teams of developers, inspiring them to achieve their full potential


• Influence team members through innovative changes and improvements by challenging the status quo


• Act as a core member of Agile teams, driving user story analysis, elaboration, and development of data applications


• Take ownership of specific platforms or products, managing them as part of a dynamic resource pool assigned to projects based on demand and business needs


• Identify opportunities to adopt innovative technologies and embrace a "rebel with a purpose" mindset by looking beyond the obvious for continuous improvement

Data Architecture & Analysis

• Apply visualization and various techniques to fast-track concepts from ideation to implementation


• Design and develop advanced data pipelines for both batch and real-time data processing


• Create and maintain technical and functional specifications while analyzing software and system processing streams


• Work with complex SQL queries (Hive/PySpark DataFrames) and optimize joins while processing massive volumes of data


• Utilize strong data warehousing concepts to build efficient and scalable data solutions

What We're Looking For: Required Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need to bring a combination of technical expertise, industry experience, and the right educational background. Here's what we require:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; OR Master's degree in Computer Applications or equivalent professional qualification


• Experience: 3+ years of software development experience with demonstrated leadership of developers and Scrum teams


• Technical Skills: 3+ years of hands-on experience working with MapReduce, Hive, and Spark (Core, SQL, and PySpark)


• Data Engineering: Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and architectures


• Programming: Hands-on experience developing software using Core Java or Python/Scala


• Big Data Platforms: Expertise in Hadoop and Spark architecture with working knowledge of their ecosystems


• SQL Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to write and understand complex SQL queries, including Hive/PySpark DataFrames, with experience optimizing joins for large-scale data processing


• Scripting: Experience with UNIX shell scripting for automation and data processing tasks


• System Development: Proven experience in analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation of enterprise applications


• Documentation: Strong ability to develop and document technical and functional specifications


• Financial Domain: Knowledge of financial reporting environments is a significant plus


• Distributed Computing: Mastery of distributed computing environments

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

While not strictly required, the following skills and experiences will significantly strengthen your application and help you excel in this role:

• Experience with cloud platforms such as GCP (Google Cloud Platform) or AWS (Amazon Web Services)


• Background in building microservices and scalable solutions


• 3+ years of experience designing and building solutions using Kafka streams or message queues


• Experience with GitHub/Bitbucket and implementing CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) pipelines
