Position Overview: Senior Data Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic Information and Examination team at arenaflex. In this role, you will collaborate with individuals from the Data and Examination team and its management in Applications Designing to provide critical data operations that support our demanding and rapidly moving climate. You will work on critical subsystems of an exceptionally exciting product that powers the future of sustainable energy.

This is a remote position offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States, with a preference for candidates located in or willing to work during Central Time. As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will have the opportunity to work on large-scale data systems, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the technical direction of our data infrastructure.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for designing, coding, testing, correcting, and documenting programs and scripts using agreed-upon standards and tools to achieve well-architected outcomes. Your technical expertise will be crucial in determining the overall approach to data management within an established data architecture that supports the development and secure operation of existing and new information and digital services.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and Airflow, ensuring efficient and reliable data flow across our systems.

  • Data Processing: Accumulate and process raw, structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data using batch and real-time data processing frameworks.

  • Data Quality Assurance: Ensure data quality and implement tools and frameworks for automating the identification of data quality issues, maintaining the integrity of our data assets.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external data providers on data validation, providing feedback and implementing customized improvements to data feeds and data mappings.

  • Team Leadership: Coach and lead data engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight to ensure best practices and high-quality deliverables.

  • Production Support: Provide ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products, ensuring system reliability and performance.

  • Compliance and Security: Work with systems that handle sensitive data with strict SOX controls and change management processes, ensuring all data operations meet regulatory requirements.

  • Estimation and Planning: Provide timely and accurate estimates for newly proposed functionality enhancements, supporting effective project planning.

  • Best Practices Development: Create, validate, and recommend improvements to Applications in the area of standards, methodologies, compliance, and quality assurance practices; participate in design and code walkthroughs.

  • Technical Problem-Solving: Use technical and domain knowledge to develop and execute effective solutions; provide hands-on coaching to colleagues through all stages of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile methodology.

  • On-Call Support: Be available for potential emergencies support, where required, to maintain system availability and address critical issues.

What You'll Bring

We are looking for a candidate with a strong technical background and a passion for data engineering. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with large-scale data systems and a proven track record of delivering high-quality data solutions.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Database Expertise: Solid experience with relational and multi-parallel processing databases like Vertica, SQL Server, and MySQL. NoSQL database experience is a plus!

  • Data Warehousing: Strong background in data warehousing, data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques.

  • SQL Proficiency: Strong capability in SQL and query writing is required, with the ability to optimize complex queries for performance.

  • ETL/ELT Development: Experience creating, maintaining, and improving ETL/ELT pipelines using Python and Airflow.

  • API Knowledge: Knowledge of common APIs: REST, SOAP.

  • Scalable Systems Design: Experience with design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, source of truth systems for various business areas, developing and maintaining web services in an Agile environment.

  • Executive Reporting: Solid experience with executive dashboards and reports creation for C-Level leaders.

  • Multi-Project Management: Ability to support multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to design effective solutions.

  • Communication Skills: Strong communicational skills, organizational abilities, negotiation skills, and flexibility to address competing demands.

  • Passion for Sustainable Energy: Enthusiasm for arenaflex's products and belief in the company's mission to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.

Preferred Qualifications (Good to Have):


  • Experience with data science tools like Pandas, NumPy, R, TensorFlow, Keras.

  • Understanding of distributed computing, such as how HDFS, Spark, and Presto work.

  • Work experience with SSIS, Informatica.

  • Knowledge of real-time messaging tools, such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, Apache Pulsar, Apache Flink, Spark.

  • Experience in Big Data processing using Apache Hadoop/Spark ecosystem applications like Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and HDFS is best.

  • Experience working with a system at scale and with Docker/Kubernetes/Jenkins CI/CD pipeline.

  • Work experience with Tableau.

Compensation and Benefits

Expected Compensation:

The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $258,000 annually, plus cash and stock awards + benefits. Salary offered may vary depending on many individualized factors, including market area, work-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also remember various factors subordinate for the position advertised.
